Installing Engine pan tray

Installing Engine pan tray
I have a 91 C4 Targa, and it came without the under pan tray. I am fully aware of the advantages and why owners remove theirs, however, I prefer to have my car as original as possible. I have just located one, and it is being shipped to me. Are they all the same from 89 to 94, & C2 & C4? How difficult is it to install? Is it just screws, what size, and how many? I appreciate any feedback.

They are M6 hex head bolts, maybe 16mm long, and get some m6 washers.......... I don't remember how many, but get a dozen, and that should be enough..................

also when I was contemplating removing my pan (still contemplating) I was looking at all the hangers I coudl remove. There are probably a half dozen or so steel hangers that act as bolting points for that pan. If your car doesnt have the pan it is possible these were removed. I'd check before you buy a pan. That would be more expense and may be it wouldnt be worth it to you at that point.

I took my pan off in the spring but plan to put it back on in the fall to keep the salt and rubbish off the engine in the winter. I just left the hangers in place with bolts in them to protect the threads from rocks, etc.
Heirsh is right, if you don't have the hangers anymore, it can get complicated and expensive.

p.s. ignore the oil spots in the pictures - that has been fixed.

Improved horsepower, more headroom, a wax-free shine, better gas mileage, a great minty taste, sex-appeal.
Marc
p.s. Some remove it for better cooling, easier engine access, or improved sound. More details if you search the archives.

Unless it is a large leak, it is possible that you may not as the undertray has foamy sound-proofing on it that can soak up alot of oil so a small leak may not be visible.
It is a 10 minute job to remove the tray - you can then assess the engine/underside and try it off for a few days to see if any wet spots accumulate under your car.

The oil build up on the tray eventually spills over to the side, while making the tray heavier with build up. Cooling is the main reason I have mine off - prefer not to cook the engine.
