Thumbs up 964 FAQ -- let's help create one!

If you've spent any time on this board, you've probably noticed that a lot of the same questions come up periodically.

I don't think this is a bad thing, and I don't want to discourage anyone from asking a question.

However, if we compiled an FAQ, they might be able to get their answers faster!

So.....what questions would you like to see in the FAQ?

I definitely will help with the research/first draft, but obviously the final approval/posting will be up to our
listmasters.

OK, here are some general FAQ categories I was thinking about:

Buying a 964

964 specs (horsepower, etc.)

Tire/Wheel questions

Maintenance Questions (schedules, oil change procedure, etc.)

Car Care Questions (recommended waxes, caring for cab tops, etc.)

Typical Mods

Any thoughts? More categories? Questions within the categories?

-squeeking brakes

mods:
-converting to teardrop "aero" mirrors

-converting to "Cup 1" or "Cup 2" 17 inch wheels
-favorite tires
-converting gauges to white-face
-converting to "big red" brakes
-lowered suspension/stiffer springs
-updating to 993-style one-piece conv. top
-aftermarket radios/avoiding fouling anti-theft system
-airbox modifications
-aftermarket exhaust systems
-chips/modified electronics

maintenance:
-favorite waxes/interior treatments for leather and vinyl/treatments for tires and exterior rubber
-favorite cleaners/polishes for plastic convertible top windows
-synthetic vs. "dino" oil, pros and cons

Happy to host results on a Rennlist 964 FAQ page on www.porsche964.co.uk if/when complete.

Massive task Melissa. Hope you/someone has the time to verify and consolidate. There's enough here to write a book. Ask Adrian!

Hi John,

Thanks for the offer - it may make more sense to host a "rennlist 964 FAQ" here on Rennlist? I already host a number of FAQs - and would be delighted to host the Rennlist 964 FAQ - we can even link it to our TECH site, as well as the FAQ..??

Best to all,

John

Indeed! I think this FAQ will be a "living document" to borrow from work terminology. It will most likely start small and grow.

JohnD, I probably should have run this by you as a courtesy, since rennlist is, after all, your site. Sorry for the oversight. (I had run the idea by Bill Gregory, but still, I should have included you.)

Hi Melissa!

No problem at all..!!! Frankly, I'm all in favor of pulling all the info together into a single document and in a dedicated FAQ. As well, I think there is a LOT of information (3+ years?) in the archives on the 911 list or even the smaller 964 e-mail lists that could be pulled into a FAQ... I know Jen, when she pulled together the 928 FAQ - found much of the information from the 928 List arcives, and once it was posted, others wanted to contribute to various sections as well.. Just an idea to get started with for a 964 FAQ, maybe??

Anyway - let me know how you would like to set it up (things like "Search" or photo links, etc..) - and I'll get the back-end site set for you, OK???

After the FAQ - I'd love to see a 964 owners area where folks could post pictures of their cars dynamicially (in other words, they can update their own pictures/web writeups right from their browsers) to complement an owners database - similiar to some of the others I host back here.... Perhaps even a "Pricing Guide" similiar to one we have for 944/951 owners..??

Anyway - just a few suggestions to consider as well..!!!

Best to you!

John

JohnD,

Great ideas! It's good to know that the space is there to implement neat things like that.
