AC update

Drifting
I haven't done it myself, but everything I've seen on it to do it "right":
replace hoses with new barrier hoses
new receiver/dryer
o-rings replaced
old oil drained out of compressor
system brought down to a vacuum for at least 30 minutes before filling
also, the high/low pressure switch might need relaced (I can't remember)
Of course, theoretically, you should have a shop do the work so that the remaining R-12 can be captured and disposed of properly. That said, you could go to Griffiths site and see what they say.
I'm sure that there are other opinons and methods that will be posted.

Anyway, here is a copy of the email I got from them (received on Mon, 23 Feb 2004 5:52:42 AM EST):
"A) New receiver drier, R134a charge port adapters, necessary orings for ports you will open,
R134a oil, R134a charge and oil record sticker, $100.00
B) New after market copper (yours is aluminum) evaporator with new expansion valve $368.00
C) Check your hoses attached to the compressor, the set two hoses are prone to leakage and wear, $256.00 for the set.
D) Evacuation, charge and test should be done by an competent ac shop with R134a equipment.
