Default manual question

whats a good tech manual to buy for a 1990 964 what about the Haynes manuals I had one for an old BMW once and it was,nt bad.The speedo also does'nt work at times when I first start moving but it usually jumps into action after a few minutes ,I presume this might be a sensor.thanks guys,Paul

Haynes don't make a manual to cover the 964 specifically. The best regarded manual around here is Adrian Streather's "Porsche 911 Enthusiast's Companion" available here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

Adrian’s book is great, I recommend it first. Bently has a fair one on the 964 and you can always get the factory manuals. I have all three and where one might be missing something the other will cover it. Maintenance on the 964 is not all that hard when you follow an approved procedure and don’t take short cuts.

I think you have the culprit pegged all ready. Sounds like the sending unit. My 928 used to do the something similar; speedo would work, then start bouncing around and finally quit before starting the cycle all over again.

Adrian's book is good, the Bentley book is nice because it's small (I leave mine in my car) and of course, the Porsche Factory Manuals are the Bible. You'd need to get the 911/Carerra books as well as the set for the Carerra 2/4 (gets kind of pricey).
