A/C Fan
I noticed that when I have the A/C on one of the fans in the front starts running, although not continuously. It cycles, so to say. Changing the temp control does not make is either stop or run continuously.
Also, I noticed that w/ A/C on, I can see my lights be "dimmed" slighty, and the same goes for the lighting in the dash. W/o the A/C this does not happen.
Any ideas <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Race Car
Everything you've inquired about is normal. When you have the AC on, the condensor fan should run, also the oil cooler fan will cycle, depending on oil temp. - I MAY be mistaken and the oil cooler fan will run constantly with AC on...but I'm sure somebody will "chime in" to correct me if wrong.
My lights dim as well, it has done this on ALL of my Porsches and a few American cars I've owned...the lights should brighten up once above idle.

That sounds reassuring - but are you sure that the A/C fan (LH) is supposed to do a sort of start-stop-start-stop kind of thing? I would expect the thing to run or not to run, meaning I do not quite see the P-logic - but hey, I only know something about aerodynamics, so what can you expect

Hey Arthur,
The A/C condenser fan (left-front fender) should run continuously with the A/C on. Sounds like your low speed resistor is failing or failed. You'll find information on how to troubleshoot the fan here:
<a href="http://members.rennlist.com/rgranaas/Oil%20Cooler%20Fan%20Ops%20Rev_0_Web.htm" target="_blank">Oil Cooler (and AC Condenser) Fan Troubleshooting</a>
I'm not aware of any link between the A/C and the oil cooler fan (but, nice thought, Jeff ) .
Best of luck!

If the AC cooler fan is cycling on and off, I'll bet money your ballast resistor is fried. Remove mud guard from drivers front wheel well and look for a donut shaped thing on top of the fan shroud. Interestingly , it sits directly beneath the battery overflow vent. See Randall's document above. It's all covered there.
I replaced mine (it was literally half disintegrated) for the same reason. Total job cost about $30. Might want to check relays also.
Enjoy,

Thanks! I'll add it to the list for the OPC to fix then. It's been like this since I had the car, so they'll have to repair under warranty

You learn something new every day. I thought the a/c fan pulsing was normal, now I know that it needs a new resitor. Another little job for the weekend.
Thanks for the info

Same with me - it was like this from the day I picked up the car. It's a Porsche, so everything may be different from what you're used to. It's kind of a special car, right?
