Red face Horn-Tip steering wheel upgrade

On my 93 C2 I've got the steering wheel with the air bag and the 2 little buttons on each side of the steering wheel which operate the horn.

My problem is that sometimes if I suddenly need to use the horn its not a reflex action to activate the horn, it takes a conscious search for one or other of the horn buttons. The problem that this is not always possible in a case which requires a fast reaction to avoid a collision. I'm accustomed to just pressing any part of the centre section of the steering wheel to active it. So a few times I have just taken action without using the horn at all, because I can't find it and by the time I do, the situation no longer calls for the application of the horn.

I have a Tiptronic and I was wondering if it is possible without too much trouble and cost to put on one of those new 996 steering wheels on and wire it up so that I could use the wheel buttons to use the tiptronic and hopefully still have the airbag operate with the new steering wheel?

So not only could I get a horn which I can use, but also get tip buttons on the steering wheel.
Any ideas?
Regards

Stephan;

Anything is this world is possible. With regards to our steering wheels we are very limited. The 993-996 wheel will interchange very nicely. These wheels will not fit without a special adapter which would require modifications to the turn signal switch and from what I hear, disconnection of the airbag. An easier aproach for someone determined would be to install a 993 stearing column.

High,
W/ a little getting used to u'll learn where the horn buttons are automatically, practice pressing them while driving when u wont distract other drivers. Place ur hands at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions,lay ur thumbs along the rim of the steering wheel. For open-road driving you should rarely if ever, need to change the position
of ur hands on the wheel.

I for one would be very interested to hear if anyone has managed put a tiptronic steering wheel off a 993 or 996 on a 964.

If anyone has, how was it done and at what cost.

If this is possible think this could be a great modification

Cheers
