Post How many proyects in mind for your 964?

I īve been thinking through all the proyects I have in mind for my 1990 C4 at the end it seems too many and by the time I am finished maybe if I add all up I could buy a new car.

Projects in mind and status:

- Fix oil leaks (two already fixed).
- Cylinder starting to leak some oil (maybe wait for bigger leak and wait for rebuilt).
- At rebuilt time study 3.8L conversion.
- RUF chip (Waiting for delivery).
- 92 model undertray and glovebox conversion (Waiting for delivery).
- Carbon Fiber interior (not the glued one, already some parts ordered, of course ebay).
- Changing suspension (not decided yet, which one).Have been offered with Koni adjustable with H&R springs.
- Techart 18" 8JX18 ET52 and 9,5X18 ET47 Wheels, from the threats it doesnīt seem to be a good idea. Right now I have the Cup II wheels 17" but they were from a 993 so I had to put spacers 23mm in the back and 7mm in the front when parking and turning the tyre touched a bit the inside. I donīt really like having spacers.
- Pair of subwoofers Audio innovations style. The front speakers already replaced and an amplifier was installed under the passangers seat.
- Change steering wheel, the car is a non Airbag car, but I didnīt like the "feel" of the original, so I purchased another, but this one came with Airbag, I have install it and the grip is much nicer, but I donīt really like an airbag in front of my face, so I might sell it again and try to look for something like momo...
- Big throttle body (I have it at home but not too sure of any gains without a hot film)...Any Experiences??.
- Change to metal brake lines (Already done).
- Pagid Brake pads (Waiting for delivery).
- ATE Blue brake fluid (Waiting for delivery).
- Drilled front disks (already at home waiting for pagid).
- Engine detailing, after seeing Robert Linton triptronic I have nightmares of me lying under the car with a tooth brush.
- Aero mirrors, I have the flag type mirrors.
- Maybe shorter gear ratio, specially in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear.
- Free flow filter (Already purchased waiting for installation).
- General detailing of the outside of the car.

There are so many things that sometimes I donīt know which to start with...

Hmm..

Taking it in for a major service next week which will include :-

New clutch & flywheel
New Oil Cooler (currently leaking due to corrosion)
Fix leak in front differential
New front Smilie
G-Pipe Secondary Muffler By-Pass (need some more volume on that Flat 6!)

After my wallet has recovered from that (which will take some time), I am thinking of lowering it a little & getting some Aero mirrors!

I would look for a highly modded car (perhaps here on Rennlist) and sell your existing car, rather than pour all that money into your existing 964.

Well Alex....

Seems you have a few wishes left and you need a second mortage.........

My improvements for the future.......

Brake pads front and rear next winter

Valve adjustment and 160.000 km inspection
planned for the winter

Front window remove for checking evt. rust under the seal.

A second lab test for my engine oil, see if the cupper level is less then in the first test.

No further things to do. The car is great.

[and hope the engine will hold a long time....]

Have fun,

Arjan

Things can get out of hand if you're not careful.

I calculated a while back that I had spent on maintenance and modifications as much as my car had cost in the first place!

My list?

The modifications I have done are -

17" Carrera Cup magnesium wheels, 8/9.5"
H & R Lowering Kit
Air Conditioning
RS Brakes
Ruf Chip - 280 BHP
High level brake-light/spoiler
'Tear-drop/aero' mirrors
Momo steering wheel

The maintenance items are too numerous to list, but include pretty much the entire oil system being replaced (some of it twice!).

I've just had the carpets replaced and will probably get the front seats reconnolised. Then I might stop. Or not...

Trouble is, I really love my 964. Over the nine years and 60k miles I have owned it, I feel that it and I have really got to know eachother. We have travelled so far and done so much. Survived disasters, had brilliant times...

Sniff!

I had a major leak at a through bolt and decided to go for broke and have the top end rebuilt and a new seal kit installed. No it wasn't cheap, and no a top end rebuild wasn't REQUIRED. I decided that if I had to have the engine out I should bite the bullet and perform a lot of preventative maintenance and eliminate any leaks once and for all. (After all, I plan on keeping my 964 for a long, long time!)

If I had the luxury of deciding when to take my car to the shop, I would have opted to install the 3.8l upgrade. I was going to pay for nearly all of the labor anyway, and would have only had to cough up the extra $3,700 for the parts. (...oh yeah and get a divorce attorney)

Now if you're going to part with that kind of cash you should go all out and build up your valve train! New motorsports springs with titantium retaining clips and an RS camshaft.

Then no one will be able to wipe that big grin off your broke, divorced mug!

Cheers,

JW

- Refurbish a friend's targa top. Completely dismantled right now. Need a weekend to put it together.
- Front disks. DIY job.
- Distributor caps/rotor arms. DIY job.
- Buy nicer D90s or refurbish existing ones.
- New carpets throughout. I'll do this myself in the summer.
- Repainted bumpers front and rear, shark fins and bonnet.
- Teardrop mirrors. Got the mirrors, need paint.
- Replacement component drivers for the doors. Diamond Audio get good write-ups. Install new amp under the seat and remove amp/crossover from luggage compartment.
- Fix minor oil line leak
- Recolour leather seats (light grey)

The modifications done to my car are:
-17" RUF sportline rims
-Koni Adjustable Shocks
-Chipped
-RS 3.8 spoiler
-Upgraded headlights

This last weekend I got around to installing an amp under the passenger seat and cleaning up a pile of bad wiring from the previous owner, and I fixed an irritating broken sunvisor clip and window switch.

On my to do list is to
1. Drop the motor and fix the oil leaks. (winter Job)
2. Finish installing the stereo
3. Put the back seats back in (P.O. had them out to install a subwoofer)
4. Install a replacement cooling fan for the A/C
5. Replace alternator belt
6. Do something to fix broken leather on driver seat
7. Steam clean carpets
8. Fix occasional Oscillating idle

And it goes on and on and on...
Since I am only home weekends its going to take a while. But who cares. I am planning on keeping this car for a very long time.

By the way where do you get those 3.8l upgrade kits from? Whats the website?

I'm finding out the hard way. I had the car for less than a year and here are some mods already done and in process:

Cup 2's
GHL Headers and Exhaust
Cross drilled and slotted rotors
H&R Springs
Ruf Chip
Intake
Heater bypass pipe (have but not installed)
Sparco Evo 2
Sparco steering wheel with quick release hub
Disconnected air bag system
Interior stripped (waiting for RS carpet)
H&R's with Bilsteins (have but not installed)
RS F/R sway bars (have but not installed)
Removed headliner and in process of deleting sunroof
Safety device cage (have but waiting to install headliner)
RS door panels (have but not installed)

Wow, I never thought I would be doing all this so soon. All I can say is, it's an addiction!

This was the mod that started the ball rolling for me. I had had disks fade and warp doing track days. I tried an RS and was so impressed by the difference in the brakes. They look so good too

Haven't looked back since - brakes have taken everything thrown at them and just laught it off.

Good to hear that the RS brakes are a significant improvement. Looks like my bank account will have to prepare for another drain

And yes, they certainly look good

Cheers,

JW
