RUF front strut brace

Why is it when you are rushing around, trying to do too much, too quickly (and she-who-must-be-obeyed is loudly nagging you to concentrate on the new house purchase) that your best laid plans for your Porsche don't run smoothly?

Question - does anyone have any idea why a RUF front strut brace (part # R64 501 334 01 [on the end] and R64 501 335 01 [on the bar]) is about 3mm too short to fit my C4? I asked RUF and got a pretty useless response.

Actually let me put this another way as I did have a fallback plan in the shape of an AJ-USA bar which is now fitted - if anyone knows that the RUF strut brace fits their car and wants it, it is available!!!!!

I had a AJUSA Bar on my 930, and loved it. I have an AJ coming for my C4. Hope it is as good as the on on my 930. What do you think of it? Compare the construction of RUF vs AJ? how about a picture?

I'll post pictures of both tomorrow. I have to admit I prefer the RUF, it feels stronger, lighter and better made - BUT IT DOESN'T FIT MY CAR!!! Even the RUF was my second choice initially (after the non-adjustable Porsche race version which is no longer available).

Because of a lack of time I had my shop fit the AJ-USA brace and they tell me they had to move a wire to let it fit, I'll catch this in the pictures.

OK, as I said in my private message, I haven't done my research on strut braces. But is it possible that the brace is adjustable? Wouldn't that adjustment change the length?

Here's a link, I don't know if it's the same brace. <a href="http://www.weissach.com/automobiles/ruf/parts/964965/964965-products.html" target="_blank">weissach</a>

Your mechanic will know more, of course...hmm

cheers,

Hi, I'm not able right now to access my e-mails so haven't seen any messages.

Yep that link shows the strut bar and yes it is adjustable and actually it does fit my car if you take one of the hexagonal adjusters off and just have the bar at one end run straight into the end piece.

The only suggestion given to me was that the PO had given the car one heck of a curbing before I bought it and that had thrown the front end the 3mm out of whack???????

I have the RUF stut brace mounted on my C4, but it was there when I got the car. I will check it and see how "connected" it is.

Cheers

Neil

A bit later than promised but here are photos

AJ USA bar installed

RUF bar on top of AJUSA bar - don't let the perspective fool you the bar may look long but actually it is 3mm too short (at least on my car).

Ruairidh,

What's the verdict on adding a strut brace - do you notice it in everday driving? I've read they make a difference in 9/10 cornering but I don't get to do too much of that on the way to work...

Hmm. That strut brace would look nice on my car...
