Can CV Boot be replaced w/o removing axle?
Hey Guys, help me out.
Someone told me a while ago that they replaced their CV boot by the tranny, without removing the entire axle. I wasn't sure I believed them at the time... I thought it was more complex than that. The story was they unbolted the allen-head bolts, and pulled the joint assembly off towards the center of the car, while the axle was hanging down.
But now mine is ripped, and I don't mind tackling it. However, can anyone corroborate if it is possible, or not?? Is this possible? Do you need any special puller to remove the joint? Are there any special circlips holding the joint on the axle? Or is it better to remove the entire axle? Just asking for a sanity check here.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
Steve

Hello
3 ways:
1.)Splitet boots like used on swingaxles >
Good enough for parking lot driving.
2.)Pull over boots like comon used in the aftermarked, you have to remove one end and pull the axleboot over the cv. >
That works for a while and is better then nothing.
3.) Using the original stuff and go the full way. >
It doesn´t take much longer then solution 1 or 2 but works better and is longer usable.

Hello
BTW if your boot is allready torn or open you have to clen & regrease the CV joint anyway ( if not you need a CV joint sooner then later ).

Hello
Me again
Yes on the inner CV joint it is possible to pull that from the Halfshaft and then renew the boot, clean the CV and regrease that before you reverse it.
For a proff with prof tools this will save no time, you have not acces to the outer CV joint but you will safe on the outher axle nuts ( thats some 5$ parts ).

Thanks for the quick answer, Roland. Is the CV assembly held onto the axle with a circlip or anything? Also too, are there any bolts that have to be replaced once they are removed.
Just want to be sure I have all of the parts on hand before I remove it.
Thanks again,
Steve
