While I haven't had the vast experience in car ownership some of you folks have had, here goes:

63 Chevy Nova (a.k.a. Chevy II)
71 Datsun 240Z
88 Nissan Pathfinder
95 Nissan Pathfinder
88 Chevy S10 pickup

and the current stable

99 BMW 328i
96 Chevy Silverado 4x4
93 RS America

I don't tend to go through that many cars. The first car on this list I bought straight out of high school. Did I mention my 20th reunion is this year?

Jamie--sounds like your Colt was just as nice as my own, and nearly as colorful! Suppose I paid more than you for the rust-free California body.

Rich W.--just had my 20th high school reunion last year. Pretty scary stuff. Big bellies, butts and bald heads whichever way you turned.

One of my old classmates (we were in a lot of "college prep" classes together) used to be an Oakland Raiders cheerleader. She still looked pretty good.

As long as I'm here, my list of previously owned cars:

-'64 Rambler station wagon. Given to me by dad. Beat taking the bus (not by much).
-'64 Pontiac Tempest w/326. Not bad, though it floated like it was on water (literally). Paint had been through more than one high desert sand storm. Never broke down on me. Only had to repair the steering column rubber that was tearing away. Replaced with I'm poor rubber cut from an old tire, naturally.
-'76 Dodge Colt. A reliable, economical car that you could dog the hell out of.
-74 Capri 6 cylinder, 4 speed. Pretty zippy, sounded great. I actually miss this car at times.
-'82 Chevy Cavalier, "loaded." Charcoal Grey, 4-speed. My first "nice" car, bought when only two years old. Traded in on my next car ...
-'85 Chrysler Laser. First brand new car. Drove this car for 80k miles, transmission linkage coming loose was worse thing that ever happened. I can't say anything bad about this car, other than it being kinda' slow.
-'66 Porsche 911. Let the money bleeding begin. Spending $$ on a car like I never had before. Fortunately, came at a time when I saw a significant boost in salary. Anyway, loved this car, what fun. Sold in '98.
-'89 Taurus SHO. Pretty nice car, fast. Ultimately proved too large for my tastes (hated washing it, let alone waxing).
-'84 Carrera Targa. Only kept this car for about 1.5 years, replacing it with ...
-'91 C2 (current car).
-'94 MX-6 LS 5-speed. Beautiful, smooth running car, low maintenance. Sold it for the wife, as she wanted (at least) one car with an automatic.
-'96 Mazda Miata. The anti-Porsche, requires no feeding at all other than gas and scheduled maintenance. Seriously. Have owned this car three years, only thing we've done besides scheduled maint. is stitch in a new rear window.
-2001 Honda EX Coupe with auto. Nice, but not terribly inspiring. Gets great gas mileage. I hardly ever drive it.

Forgot I had a Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi - probably because I only had it for 2 weeks - friend borrowed it and promptly wrote it off! Rolled it at 70mph and emerged unscathed. Plod found him sitting next to car clutching the removable steering wheel!

Agree with Phil, an amazing car!

Urbanassault ,

It's a SAD story really!

Basically the 964 was bleeding me dry. <cash flow>

I found out why she <rs> had low miles on her , spent most of her life in the mechanic shop.

My mechanic told me to stay away from the 964 due to high maintence cost and other issues. Basically i did not listen and i spent a boat load of dough! After the battery exploded and caused a small fire, i threw in the towel. I wish she would have burned to the ground but of course the car only had a small fire costing about 4 grand. I had to wait about 2 weeks for the darn battery cord, custom made in Germany. So i went back to a 1988 911 and basically got another guys problem. I loved the black RS but i really loved my 25th anv.

Soooooooo when i got married, the wife stated the Porsche must go but she did say that she missed the black RS. (bought her ring with my porsche fund)

I found a 1968 912 for a decent price but now i look back on what i had. <miss the 964 growl under a bypass>

I am crying now

jpc,

Your story is a sob story! I can't imagine my GF or my exW telling me to sell my car or anything else for that matter. It would be like me telling her that she has to cut her long nails off and shave her head. It shows a certain disrespect. Mind you, some people like being told what to do.

Cool

As I'm only 24 I'll list also family cars (as far as I remember)

Family cars:

1981-1984 Alfa romeo Giulietta 1.6 De Dion suspension and gearbox-differential block on rear axle for F1-like handling!!

1984-1990 Volvo 240 GLE D6 Sedan - Typical family car, overweighted and underpowered but reliable, we kept it until it reached 260000 kms.

1990-1996 Saab 900i sedan - Great handling but ugly design. 200000 kms with it.

1996-2000 Saab 900S Coupe - Motorway cruiser with great BBS wheels

2000-2001 Alfa Romeo 156 1.9JTD - A really surprising Diesel

2001-present Alfa Romeo 166 2.0 Twin Spark - Another Motorway cruiser, incredibly roomy.

And now my own driving experiences:

1990-present Fiat 600 Elaborazione Allemano (1963) - Our Historical car, carefully garaged. Rear engine and RWD, the perfect desing!

1996-2000 Opel Tigra 1.4i - My first love...

2000-present Porsche 964 C4 (1990) - My family's first Porsche...We're all very happy with it so it surely won't be the last!!

Christer,

Ok, the wife never actually said get ride of the porsche. She said it in another way that is extremely hard to explain typing a note on the internet.

Basically letting the car go lifted allot of bills and paid for her big rock.

Yeah i am driving a VW but with a warranty!

The porsche (912) is paid for, so it really does not matter how many miles she can perform.

Its a good car though and probably will out live the VW someday.
Cheers
