Here are some photos of one of the more "interesting" cars I've owned. My desert racer & mud puddle hopper:
<img src="http://members.rennlist.com/rgranaas/Dodge%20Colt%20Front.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://members.rennlist.com/rgranaas/Dodge%20Colt%20Rear.jpg" alt=" - " />
And, here it is in action:
<img src="http://members.rennlist.com/rgranaas/180th%20Street.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://members.rennlist.com/rgranaas/180th%20Street_1.jpg" alt=" - " />
I was 16 when I bought the car, a '76 Dodge Colt, from a friend. He had painted the car in pastel, textured, white, in his back yard (literally). Not sure if it was, but it had the look and consistency of house paint. He also added the low-profile tires in the rear (which, believe it or not, really made the car stick around corners) and the Mitsubishi sticker. After purchasing (some $400), I added the racing stripes and numbers, by scraping away the white house paint to reveal the factory green beneath.
Man, I had a lot of fun driving this car through the various high desert roads with complete abandon. (The pics above were taken on a "regular," mapped street. Most of our fun occurred on unmapped, random roads crisscrossing the desert). After a good rain, I could also pass through mud puddles over 20' in length--given a proper running start. That's how bored us kids were up in the high desert. We looked forward to running our beaters through mud puddles after rain--a regular sport. More than a few times, we had to pull someone's car out from a mud puddle, after a hopping attempt came up short.
Some of you from Southern California may recognize the terrain as Lake Los Angeles, some 25 miles from Palmdale/Lancaster.

Randall, that car brings a lot of good memories. I had a 1974 Dodge Colt as well, but a four door... I bought it for US$200.00 No inside door panels, flat black,no shocks, rust in the rear fenders. After some sheet metal, bondo, shocks, 1/4" wood paneling, Gloss Black Rust Oleum paint, the car looked great (from a distance that is ) Use the car until it died one day coming from college... sold it for 100.00
