Loren,

This isn't intended as a flame, but I think you might want to consider the source and content before suggesting there's something amiss. I've been following this board for over a year now and Jeff, David and Rich all provide credible, objective and accurate information--they aren't BS'ers.

Also, I think it might be useful for you to review some of the previous discussions on this board regarding performance. I believe it will give you a better sense of the type of information being shared. Trust me, it's not all butt dyno's!

Not sure what the Pelican boards are like, but here, but it's been my experience that most contributors are fairly responsible and try to provide accurate information.

I don't think anyone will disagree with you over the value of dyno testing. It's just that it's not always convenient, especially when carrying out multiple mods, and of course, there's the cost. No one is claiming miraculous results, here--we're just reporting observations. It's up to the reader to decide what they want to believe.
I look forward to your contributions as well.

Thanks for the backup, Joey.

BTW Loren I did dyno my car after the first chip. There was a definite 10+ HP gain. The dyno results were posted long ago. If you're interested, search the archives.

That is my OBJECTIVE view.

In my earlier post, I didn't mention the main reason for my
comments about chips in 964's. My customers are mostly
independent Porsche shops and some dealers with whom
I get involved with to solve Porsche running problems.

Just this last week a shop in the state of Washington
sent me a DME for a 964 to test. The shop indicated that
the car had a pinging problem. After opening the box
I found that someone put a non-stock chip in it.
The shop requested that I convert it back to stock.

This situation happens often. Not only does the pinging
problem occur but these cars have idle problems and
check engine lights. There are enough problems with
964's as I've found (e.g. stalling, emissions failures)
w/o adding non-stock chips. In the late '80s I installed
chips in 3.2 911's and saw problems. Many of my customers
ask me to install 964 chips and I always discourage them.

I'm now starting to see problems with 993 not passing
smog here in California and they don't even have "chips".
As many of you know, the secondary air injection system
becomes blocked with carbon and causes fault codes.
My dealers do a valve job to solve the problem at about
50K miles. This is a real costly repair to pass smog.

With OBDII in California you just can't reset the codes
anymore. You must drive the car for a number of "cycles"
to allow any codes to re-occur if possible before a
smog test can be done. The state now connects directly
to the box via OBDII.

I discuss some of these issues on my website (systemsc.com).
There are few chip guys that can really tweak the 964
maps w/o problems, Andial Porsche here in So. CA is one.
This is because they are tied into the Porsche factory.
I don't think they do any non-race/street stuff.

Again, sorry to come on so strong about chips.

Good luck

Understood Loren...I am careful to make any frivolous claims in anything that I do. I am just a "shadetree experiment guru", of sort.

If you read back in my posts, my main objective was to cure the NOW annoying stalling issue associated with a LWF.

The fact that the chip may have had an inherent 10-12HP gain is just a plus...no rev limiter adjustment or anything.

I do not see the point of putting my car on a dyno to see 10-12HP...I just appreciate that it seems my car has a bit more "zing" to it, and that's what I reported...PLUS, it's fun to claim yields via the "BUTT DYNO"!!

Rich, if you still have your old chip, bring it over when we swap your rotors. ...we'll see if that blows up my motor!

...somehow, I always fealt that we were related...that will explain the urge I have to say, "I love you" whenever I see you.
