Post Air Box Cover & Black Exterior Trim

Where can I find a new/used air box cover for my '92 C2. I want to try drilling the air box but want a backup just in case I don't like the sound. I have tried eBay and I don't want to spend the extra $ for the Fabspeed version.

Another question - has anyone tried to remove the black plactic/rubber strip that runs along the bottom on both sides of the car? Mine has a lot of wax buildup but I am afraid it might be a real pain to replace once I have removed it.

Darryl,

Excuse my Bodgeness - but if you want to exeriance the sound without drilling the box, why not take out the half of the airbox you usually drill and duct tape the filter to the remaining half - a bodge I know, but for the 5 miles or so it will take you to determine if you like it effective ?

One thing I will say though is that although this will probably give you a sense for the sound it may not be an exact representation as I know people have commmented that even removing the trumpet after drilling effects the sound also...

Just a thought

Air-box - I did as suggested and I'm glad I did, because I don't like the sound. Too 'boy-racer'.

The black sill strips - to replace them, you need to remove the sill cover. Three or four nuts underneath, a screw at the front end and pull-off clips along the side. Be gentle as you pull it off. The 'shark-fin' is similar.

You SHOULD get away with just reusing all the existing parts if you're not too energentic in the removal.

Speaking about the black rubber trim, it's been very hot here this month and I drove me car the other day and left it parked outside for no more than an hour. Came out and the 'sharkfin' on the passenger side had pulled away from the car. It looks like some sort of glue inside has melted. I haven't had a chance to look at it closely yet. Anyone else had this problem?

It shouldn't be glued. The seal has a contoured edge which clips into a slot along the edge.
Sometimes, if they pull out, people glue them in because they can't be bothered to remove the fin/sill and do the job properly. The rubber strips harden with age.
New ones are nice and 'floppy' and matt. Cost about 10GBP each.
Easy and cheap to smarten your 964's appearance.

I had the rubber strips replaced on my car. The passenger side strip has shrunken (due to the heat from the oil cooler tubes).

If you're doing it yourself, buy some extra clips from the dealer-- they break really easily.

Good luck!

This is another reason to use Zymol/Victoria wax. In my experience it does not build up like normal, admittedly much cheaper, waxes. In fact I use Victoria all over the 'black' bits of the car!

Some of the problems with the rocker/sail panels (aka "shark fins/door sills" ) is that there are attachments points for the infamous clips to clip onto the rocker/sail panels.

These attachment points break just as the clips do - leaving the owner with the option to purchase a new rocker/sail panel or GLUE it back on as previously mentioned.

As it has gotten REAL hot here in Va., recently I noticed that my passenger side sail panel is not staying where it's supposed to...I went to remove it and guess what?

Yes, it had been glued back on with some black "tarry" substance...YUK! <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

SO, buy a new sail panel or just "pop" it back on with liquid nails?? ...the world may never know as to what extent I went to.

The black rubber strips are quite the pain to re-install properly...once they're "disturbed"...better to go pickup new ones.

As for the AIRBOX dilemna...haha, too funy...no question there - JUST DO IT!

Well, mine was definitely glued. Not really thrilled about tackling this job. I prefer to do things right, however like I said, not thrilled about tackling this job
