If this... http://www.griffintechnology.com/pro...deck/index.php ...actually works, it might be a good interim solution for the Reno 2 crowd like me!

The CR/CDR-220 has an Aux In that can be used either for an MP3 Player or a CD Changer, but not both. Just my $0.02

Darryl - I've a Griffin FM transmitter and it it terrible - the cassette might be a bit better but not CD quality!

John - you're right - but who needs a CD changer if you've a 40 G iPod!

I agree, OTOH, for USD 25 it may be worth the try. I'm gonna see if I can find one locally to listen to once distribution gets going; I've used similar products for CD players in the past and found them tolerable, certainly not hi-fi, but not too offensive.

OK, here's the finished project. First, a shot of the two wiring harnesses. Small yellow plug is the connector for the Factory power amp and the big plug has the other connections and speakers (which I didn't use as I have the power amp). For others with this configuration, the wires going to the proprietary Blaupunkt plug are brown=right front, green=right rear, yellow=left rear, white=left front, and red single wire=switched 12v for the power amp.

And here are two pictures of the installed unit:

Thanks for posting, Bill. The head unit looks absolutely appropriate to the car. Replacing the Reno II is still on my "gotta do that sometime" list.

Default Add Speed Dependant Volume

Bill,

I also put a CR-210 in my C2 along with the CD3 changer. The only extra thing I did was to take advantage of the SDV (Speed Dependant Volume or "GAL" as identified in the manual) in the CR/CDR210s. This is done by splicing the wire from pin 1 of CDR210 connector "A" to the Red/White wire that comes from the back of the speedometer, which has the speed pulse signal. The feature works quite well once you set up your preferred sensitivity on the CDR setup menu, increasing the volume to compensate for the sweet sounds of the 964 exhaust!

Regards,

Jim Grant

Default Not sure how old this thread is but...

This weekend I had to install TrafficPro's in a 993 and a 964. The 964 had some old Blaupunkt (Reno I think) cassette deck with corresponding propietaty connector. Rather than cut off this connector, I inserted spade connectors and mated these with the Becker harness. I just don't like the idea of hacking off connectors.

In the case of audio out, well this 964 has a Blaupunkt amp under the passenger seat but the 8 pin DIN connector is the next obstacle. A quick search of Continental Imports site, showed this adaptor.

For those of you familiar with Becker and Blaupunkt products, the newer models have interchageable harnesses. So I'll order the above cable tomorrow and I hope to have sound within the next few days

Mr. Gregory,

I'm thinking of doing the same upgrade in my 964. Could you repost your pics on this thread please? It would be so much help.

Thanks

Here's two photo's, one of the harness and one in the dash. The big black cable is the antenna.

Bill, thanks for posting those pics. Do you have the pics of the adapters from becker? Also, with the CR-1 when the car was locked a red light on the unit would blink. When upgrading to the CDR-210 does a light on the unit blink? If so which harness connects to the alarm? Thanks

Somewhere, I have pictures of the adapters ... somewhere ..... will look further but am not finding them. As I recall, the alarm is tied into the radio frame. There's not an alarm connection to the unit, and I don't recall a light on it. See the connections on page 28 of the user manual at http://www.beckerautosound.com/pdf_guides/om43-4462.pdf
