I would check the under sealing, I there are a sealing it probably wont be a basic/lightweight. Otherwise, if your car is a Touring made to an exact copy of a lightweight, contact your local Porschedealer and ask them to check the VIN Number with the factory.

The 77 liter tank was standard on the 964 RS Basic.
The 92 liter tank was an option. Anders you should have it as an option code on your hood- and servicebook-lable.

I read that the powersteering was an option on the Touring. I will check on the hood for the fuel tank. Is there an option code list somewhere in the web?

I have absolutely no Option recorded on my car at all, neither under the hood or on the label in the servicemanual, and as far as I know and I can read the 92 ltr gastank was standard on the Basic version. I also know for a fact that neither of the two owners have replaced the gastank.

I have a special Porsche service/info manual (40 A4 pages) that describes all the differences about the 964 RS (Touring and Basic) vs. normal C2. I will check it out when I get home.
Anders, are you saying you do not have the lables or no optioncodes?
My RS had both lables. It did not have a optioncode of the 77 liter tank.

AFAIK the 92 ltr tank was standard on the 964 RS Basic. At least that is what most sources assert. Neither my RS has an optioncode for the 77 ltr tank.

My 1993 964RS has the 92 litre tank fitted but nothing mentioned in the option codes. However almost every 964RS that I have seen or seen pictures of did NOT have the 92 litre tank & the Supplement to Drivers Manual states 77 litres fuel tank. My feelings are that it was an option but not listed on the sticker.
(Also the carpet that goes over the spare wheel does not fit correctly with the 92 litre tank fitted)

Now I have read the "Porsche Service Information Technik 911 Carrera RS" WKD497610.
All Touring and right hand drive RS (Basic and Touring) has powersteering. So the ONE thing to check if it is a modified LHD Touring is the powersteering pump, or the absent of it
The WKD497610 does not give any answer to gastank size. But if I compare the two pictures that shows the gastank in WKD497610 with pictures of the 92 and 77 liter tanks it is in both cases the 77 liter tank.........
And the special RS Owner Manual that came with all RS´s in Europe states tanksize to 77 liter. (I have this RS Owner Manual in both German and Swedish in front of me.)
In "Lightweight Carrera Confusion" (artice by Bob Gagnon in Porsche Panorama USA) the text says the Basic had a 92 liter gastank. It does not say if it was standard or option.
Based on the information in print from the Porsche factory in 1992 I think 77 liter was standard equipment in the RS. As an option (no extra cost?) you could have the 92 liter tank.
If anyone has more info please share it with us.
Merry Christmas

ok, from another forum (in Italy) , the general opinion of other RS owners is that the 77 came as standard. I know think that Porsche choose to fit the two sizes on a geographic base or , another hypothesis, on a "stock availability" basis. That' s my guess though.
Thanks Patrick. Do you think I can get the beautiful A40 pages somehow or somewhere?
cheers
