Default rs pulley ............ again !!!

slight problem , my car losts it's two genuine belts .
so i gotta get 9m to fit my some more .

now i'm thinking of doing this mod while everything is stripped down .

my car is a 1993 carrera2 , no air-con , no sun-roof .

but , it is a convertible with a big stereo system !!
(please don't judge me on that )

at the moment my roof is manual , if i put it back to electronic , will i have charging problems ?

cannot find anything doing a search

Per Bill Gregory's post, I did a search on both our 964 board, and the 993 board about the pulley conversion and it appears that once the engine is above 2000 RPM, all is good. If you spend a substantial amount of time idling, you could have issues with your battery running down - the consensus is that you won't likely completely discharge your battery, but you'll be straining it more (deeper discharge and then charging) which COULD potentially shorten its lifespan.

It seemed that there are lots of installations out there, with few reported problems. Sounds like the only risk is a battery replacement at a shorter interval.

Lots of people pursuing this right now, I guess. Check this thread out for some more info.

If you do a bit of driving in heavy traffic I think you might run into a problem. If the alternator was having a hard time charging your battery and then you tried to close your top electrically you might run out of juice. Your big stereo system would definitely complicate things as well. I don't think your alternator would be able to keep up with the demands of the system.

Ian: I have the RS pulley on my car and have no charging issues. My $0.02 - Since the pulley turns slower, the issue is charging at idle. I'd think that there should be no concern as long as you don't simply start and stop your car without driving it.

with me only being able to operate the hood at stand-still ............
if i keep the revs up , and the volume down , it should be ok then ?

would rather get this sorted before i get the work done , compared to the problems i think i may get , the hassle/expence of a 2 belt system seems a better proposition !!

Just do the upgrade... and keep the original bearing hub and if you find you're going through batteries (and be sure to report back!! ). I doubt this would happen - batteries are meant for such duty - afterall the most stress is using the starter motor which is PURELY a battery-driven affair.

With regards to what Tom says - if you drive where you are ALWAYS idling, in stop and go traffic, you are wearing out a lot more expensive components in your engine than battery!

OK, that's just so gorgeous. Never seen it before. Not sure what it does, other than the obvious. It's like jewellery for the boot. I'd hafta take out the carpet cover so it could be seen (shame to hide it.) It looks a bit like some of the high-end audio gear I lust after (but don't own, 'cuz I bought a 964 instead.) If I ever get SERIOUS serious about the sound system in the 911, Tsunami goes straight to the top of the list. Thanks for that.

My honest opinion is that if you have a large stereo and it is a cab, what would be the point - as you are taking an unnecessary risk for no reason....

no , really , it seems a little cheap mod that would cost next to nothing while i have to buy new belts etc.

yes but it is a mod that may cause a problem and with little to no gain....if you had a coupe and anything less than a 10kW sound system () then I would say go for it, but I just wouldn't want you to run into problems for no reason. If it gained 50hp of course then its a different story....

just my 2 cents, if you do it let us know how it pans out...
