Default Please Help!!!

Hi everyone

Hoping for some advice. I have a 993 c2 pre-v with 79,000 miles. I have had the car for 6 months covered 8,000 miles and it has been pretty reliable. Just recently it has developed a problem. If you start the car from cold it runs okay, however, if you switch the engine off after a run leave it for say 30 minutes then restart the car it stuggles to start seems to be firing on less than 6 cylinders, rocks from side to side and produces a very strong smell of petrol externally. As you drive away the problem clears itself but reappears if the temperature guage rises to above 9 o/c. The wiring harness, distributor caps, rotors and dme have all been replaced previous to this fault occurring. My local porsche independent connected the car to their tester and diagnosed a faulty o2 sensor which has been replaced but the problem is still apparent. Any ideas?

Many thanks
James Wright Surrey England.

hey james
you got some good replies on the 993 forum .
expect many on here also , especially tommorrow when people are "working"

dme relay sounds good , as does a rubber hose (maybe vacuum) that starts to leak once the heat expands things .

NOTE : YOU SAY YOU SMELL PETROL .............. HAVE YOU CHECKED FOR LEAKS ??? !!!

might be stating the obvious , but the consequencies could be disasterous !!

Did the independent check the car after changing the O2 sensor? Could be a duff new sensor or a problem with wiring to/from the sensor rather than the sensor itself?
