To PCA or not to PCA?
Ever since I got my 964 in February I've been contemplating PCA membership. What do I get for my $42/yr? How is Panorama? I've gotten more than twice the PCA membership price worth from my Rennlist membership, and I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't quite that steep. Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Join PCA. No question. Panorama is good. The best thing you can do, is try out a driving event held by PCA. If you haven't autox'ed your 964, you don't know what you are missing.

You'll get a discount even @ a P-dealer w/ your card, thou probably most of us buy elsewhere
PCA region meetings are usually fun, "it's the people", and if you ever want to try an AutoX, or DE, you'll need the card, it's nice to run w/ other P-cars.
Pano's something I always look forward to.

Hi Brian,
I got my car about the same time as you and immediately joined PCA as well as the NER region. PCA is most interesting to me because of the people and the resources available through the various websites available to members.
Pano is a good publication. Pretty glossy (like Excellence), but a smaller format. Lots of the pages are full of club news but the tech info is good (though obviously not dedicated to 964s) and the articles -- like the one covering the Rennsport Reunion -- are excellent. Lots on Porsche history especially in the US. The club news is less interesting to me at this point simply because I know so few people. The classifieds are terrific, some (but a minority) duplicating what is on Rennlist.
My reason for rejoining, next year, will be the people and events which of course can't be accessed very well without a membership. I'm sure PCA has its quota of jerks but everyone I've met so far has been supportive and friendly. I'm a novice at autoX, and the drivers have been without exception encouraging -- of course I'm not a threat to any of them yet. There is also of course road racing and, next year, I want to get started in DE events (track days). They also offer, in my region, several tours with lots of wine and good food and scenery over the season. There are also low-key rallies and concours events.
Of course, if you don't like people or car-centered events, I don't think I'd bother joining though Pano alone could be worth the price of admission for me.

Spend the dollars, a tank and a half of gas. My wife and I get more than our moneys worth participating in the local events. Where else can you spend a day or a weekend with other enthusiasts like yourself.

I concur with the others. PCA is well worth it. Not only for national events, but for your region as well. You can also browse around the PCA website with a membership. Good stuff. It's also interesting to see other region's websites as well. I only read Pano, Excllence and AutoWeek, and that coupled with PCA and the Forums, I get all the info I need!

PCA membership brings you together with others in your region in a variety of activities, including social, technical, concours, autocross, drivers education, rally's, and other events. You can look at the PCA website at www.pca.org, choose regions, and hone in on yours, to see what's going on. In Pano, earlier this year, you would have seen an article on 964 track preparation (March issue). You also have access to the Up-Fixin series of technical articles from long ago to almost current (11 volumes if I recall correctly). Well worth the annual membership.

All you have to do is take out your seats and collect all the change down there just waiting to jam your power seats
Do join the PCA, you wont regret it..

PCA is good for any Porsche owner. If your a Trackie or a Tour-ist (like me) there are things to do IN your 964 - which believe it or not is more fun than typing in to Rennlist. You bought the car to Drive it - right? And if you have a spouse or close friend that may not totally share your love for your Porsche ... going to events is a great place to see the cars and meet the people. My wife would not understand much of the "talk" but she loves the travel and meeting other wives too. I have been a member on & off for 20 some years - 3 states & three Porshes - and it is worth every penny - just like Rennlist! Just another way to be part of the Porsche experience, Enjoy! :-)

Allright, my check's in the mail! Thanks for the input everybody. I figured this was the response I'd get, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

On top of that, the Pano is fun to look at, as well as your regional newsletter, depending on how good it is. I've seen some pretty sad ones (Redwood) and some great ones (San Diego).
Well worth it - and that's not including the driving events that are tons of fun. Even though I do all my racing with the POC (at $75/year), I still like to go and watch sometimes, or use an Autocross to set up the car before races if big changes have been made.

PCA!!! The best gift you can give yourself for under $50.
Panorama is a great montly magzine. Most regions have nice websites and monthly magazines. (Well work the $50 alone).
The discounts alone will defray your costs signficantly. Not to mention the past few years their were $100 parts coupons good at any Porsche dealership for any purchase of $200 or more.
Weekends at the Track...
Sundays of Autocross...
Toss in an occassional Concours, Trek, Social event and/or Rally and what do you get?
Great fun, wonderful friendships and a social calender second to none!
--------------------
Monday at the water cooler....
So how was your weekend, "not to bad, BBQ with the neighbors and an outing to Target." and you relpy, "Yeah, mine was okay too! Spent the weekend at (fill in the name of your favorrite track) Watkins Glen."
"Cool, watching a race?"
"Nope, exercising the Porsche"
"Really?"
"Really!"
"How fast did you go?"
"About a buck fifty and that was only in fourth gear!"

What are you waiting for?

What dealer gives 15%? I only get 10% at a dealer here in St. Louis and the other local dealer doesn't give any breaks for belonging.
But glad to hear you joined up. The Pano subscription is worth it. Also the local club events can be fun as well.
