What filter for my 964?

It's time to change my paper filter on my 964
What should I buy?
Regular K&N?
Cone Filter?
Fresh air intake with cone?
Thanks
Arnaud

You can buy a stock filter for $9.23USD, K&N are $55USD. With the K&N your engine will not realize any power increase so the only benefit to the K&N is that you get to wash it out and re-oil it every year.

I still use the paper filter. Better and cheaper - what's not to love?

The stock Porsche filters are pretty good. However, if you decide you need a cone filter, recommend you get one that has a curved pipe which puts the filter under the cooler airflow coming through the spoiler, and not the type that just attaches a cone filter to the air meter, which has hotter air access.

Bill, do you know who makes a curved pipe attachment for a cone type K&N filter ?

I have this one installed from EVO Motorsports.

Thanks Joey that looks pretty cool. Right now I just have a K&N cone that sits in the back with no curved pipe. Do you think you get much extra power with this curved pipe set-up ?

You might get about 1% increase if you are drawing cooler air. Not a difference you can feel but still worthwhile given price of curved pipe which you could DIY with silicon connector similar to Joey's. If you added a heat shield to the bottom half of the cone you might get better results since that half will draw hotter air from the engine bay.

Check out this link which Robin (hero to 993ers) did a simple mod to get cooler air and verified with measurements. http://p-car.com/diy/intake/

I got a noticeable improvement in 0-60 times, about 0.3 seconds according to the G-Tech, when I replaced the stock airbox with lid cut off a la "cup" style with the EVO intake. BUT I also had a GIAC chip and g-pipe on my car when I made the swap so your experience may vary.
