Glad your back into a 964. Looking forward to your progress.

Jeff I am willing to work with you on the engine price but you will need to personally deliver it since we are in the same time zone.
Received payment for it yesterday.

Cleans up well. Glue comes of with Prepsol (body shop degreaser) covered with plastic bags, then wire brush. Still amazed how sound the shell is. Found a red pencil code on the rear shelf, likely indicates the color code/interior code.

They all have markings on the tub like that. IIRC it is part of the body code stamped on all the panels. The primary code is located on the rear parcel shelf and on all the original panels. Prepsol works but nothing is a fast acting as xylene. Not the healthiest stuff but soak a rag and let it sit for 5 min on the glue and it will roll up into a ball. Always use PPE when using though. Nice start it is a thankless job I have done a few myself and it never gets any easier.

@cobalt We are falling behind man - let's get these RSRish cars going

George - looking great! I've been thinking of how to handle my tub, as I want to seam weld it...but considering there isn't any rust on it, not sure I want to dip it or otherwise strip the undercoating completely off. I'm considering just a super deep cleaning - possibly a hot water pressure wash for the underside, trying NOT to peel any undercoat - and just wire the undercoat where I will seam weld and then reapply undercoating at those spots. I know this isn't a cool race car move but I do want to drive the car so the extra protection might be good.

I always use this car as inspiration - 964 RSR Inspired Replica - Page 5 - Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums

I am also on the fence re: seam welding à la RS. Pretty sure I won't feel it, but since I am going with a bare tub (sans paint stripping) I figure why not...
What I know is that I will mechanically reassemble and start the car without interior or insulation, to make troubleshooting easier.

You might not feel it- but if you drive hard it may help keep the body taught through the years. I'm not familiar enough with the 964 to say this but I know that other cars driven the chassis did get more flex in it over time.

In all honesty I had a US spec cup car and my C2 for a while to play with. I expected more rigidity from the seem welded Cup. Although I did reinforce and weld the entire roof skin on my C2 along with bonding it and I believe that added a lot of rigidity to the C2 tub. You can feel the loss of weight up high. I can understand the need to seem weld for a track car but a properly built cage will give you a similar result. My C2 is a superior handling car to an RS but I have done just about everything on can do to the car but seem weld it. I would say for most street driving you will never notice the welding over the full upgrades I have done. Although I have yet to drive an RS or seem welded tub that is setup like mine. How much more can you get out of it I honestly don't think much.

My next build, if I live that long, will be seem welded just because. It is a lot of work but if you are up for the challenge it will not detract.

Thanks, my thouhts as well. While I am (deep) in there.

Next IMPORTANT request:
Can someone get me a picture of what's under the driver seat, preferably an '89, (with legend)?
I am solving my missing wire loom issues but need that info.

To expand on the question above,
I would need a clear picture of the large 30 pole plug that should be there (?), or any other plugs, that I need to re-do and re-pin.
Also, does an '89 C4 with catalytic converter have an altitude sensor?

There is some information about that in Adrian's book, although not very structured if searching. Do you have that available? An "altitude compensation system" is mentioned on page 143.

Yes I have Adrian's book. I am working from the factory workshop manuals/wiring schemes and this forum, but I have not thought of the book.
I am more of a hands on person. If I can spend some time under the driver seat of an unmolested '89 C4, I'll get it all in order.

Quite a project. I recall a time not too long ago when this car would have been handed over to convert - fairly quick and dirty - to a track car of some sort. No one would have thought them worth the money for a detailed tribute restoration. I'm glad that time has passed.

Thanks.
I am aiming for a copy of the 964 RS Prototype, as presented in Christophorus magazine, late 1990.
Only difference will be that it is a 4 for now, until I manage to legally convert it to a 2.
A lot of nice details in that prototype.
But No Singer-ing that one. Factory parts wherever possible.
