Checking Distributor Belt
#16
Make accurate drawings when disassembled to asure assembly is correct. Compressing the shaft half of the distributor was a pain. You have to come up with a method of compressing it with all the shims and install the drive gear roll pin. Not an all day affair to rehab the whole thing. check p-car.com DIY pages.

Come on guys, if the belt is broken, the secondary distributor will fire on the wrong cylinder at least 5/6 of the time!! The car will probably not run or a best run with a lot of backfiring. Just replace it. It should take less than two hours and $15.

I posted some pointers about it when I did it - do a search for it. It is really easy. I compressed the shaft by leaning on it - that's all it took for me. It is a really simple procedure, as long as you're fairly competent mechanically... and you've got snap-ring removers!!!

Whole lot of threads on this. Garrett gave me lots of advice when I ordered everything a couple of weeks ago. Do a search and read the thread, some good pointers!
