'90 Carrera 2 $14k
I saw a red '90 carrera 2 coupe for $14k.
It has 111k miles, but looks incredible. I rode in it today and it feels strong. The paint is flawless, the tan interior has no rips or tears in the seats. The engine has been detailed very nicely.
I work at a car dealership, and it was a trade in.
Is this price an absolute steal? What do these things normally go for?

I would think if the car is solid and with no major mechanical issues or serious body work, it might go for the upper teens to even $20,000 retail price.
I bet it would be totally realistic for a dealership to allow $14k for it for a trade in value. Clean it up, fix a few things, put a used car price of $22k on it, sell it for $17k to $20k and make a decent profit.

This sounds exactly like a car I looked at when I was shopping two years ago. It had about 80K on it back then. Send me a PM with an e-mail address and I will send you the pictures.
The paint was way too good for 12 years and 80,000 miles - not a single rock chip or scratch. The owner claimed it was original paint, and claimed there was no collision history.
Upon close inspection, the rear cross member (which supports the engine) had non-factory weld repairs. This implies an accident that intruded deep into to engine compartment. It was a beautiful car, but with an undocumented major collision repair, I stayed away. It was bargain priced two years ago as well, but I spent extra $$$ to get a car with better history.
Where are you in Atlanta? Come see my car if you want some pointers on where to look and what to look for.

I work for a car wholesaler and we got a 90 C2 coupe last September for 15K. It was guards red with tan leather and 62 or 63k miles. Paint was good but faded some and interior was like new. One owner car and the paint buffed up like new. Only problems with the car were bad tires and values needed adjustment. Trade in value at car dealership is not much. They tend to steal them from you .

The car is at Jim Ellis Audi of Atlanta.
Really, someone needs to get the car. Its very nice, was just detailed and is beautiful.
I just dont want some guy having a midlife crisis to buy it, take a turn too fast, and wreck it.

Whoa Jim Ellis is the Porsche dealer here. They would know the deal on that car. I wonder if something is wrongwith it - of course thats a liability with a dealership! Maybe they just got it really right. Is it for sale at $14K or that was the trade in value?

i'm not about to go read all them pages again , but i think the outcome went something like this ................
after allmost every car community in the world had it on the forums , and visited the thread for support ..............
and local tv and radio and press covered the story .................
and law firms offered there services for free to fight the lawsuits............
and people buying porsches , bmw's etc. cancelled there orders ...............
and vw of america stood up for the vwvortex forum regarding that seperate lawsuit ...................
mr. ellis , the main man , finally got to hear of the story
i think he stepped in and personally put the thing to bed .
i think it was a branch/area manager acting without letting head office know .
or something like that
