Default Production numbers update

I have been working on this ROW 1990 production number for a couple of weeks now. The Porsche VIN records still show just under 4000 but that is clearly incorrect. However a colleague of mine has found some more data which we have confirmed. This data is parts (engine orders) allocation data from another department. Their records showed they ordered 9171 engines for the ROW C4/C2 coupe production line. Total engines ordered for model year 1990 approaches 20,000. So I have decided to update my figures based on these engine orders for 1990 for the coupes.
A fully corrected pdf file for the production of the 964 is now available on the home page of my web site.
Ciao,
Adrian

Thanks Adrian. This sounds reasonable. We can assume that each car only received one engine...

Dear Phil,
Actually no but that is an assumption I am prepared to live with. Quite seriously most people do not consider an engine failure on the line or during test. It does happen and the engine is often simply replaced to keep the line going and to make delivery. The failed engine is repaired later, put into another 964 or into the spares pool or stripped for parts.

Yes, I figured there'd be 'spare' engines, but the percentage should have been relatively low - I hope!

Cheers

Dear Phil,
Porsche sold their last 993 spare engine about a year ago. The 964s ran out some time ago with "new spares" but I believe it is possible to get a rebuilt unit.

My '90 C4 has numbered 4250 and now I feel more comfortable......
I have all original document so I assume the number is real when I bought the car, although I couldn't find the number in either Adrian's book or the "red book"....
