looking for wheels on e-bay: what do you think of these 3 sets, folks?

I own a set of Mille Miglia 17's - but don't want the unsprung weight penalty over OEM.
So - looking to replace the good ole D90's with one of the following gen. Porsche items:

or

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...EBWA%3AIT&rd=1

or, finally, I quite fancy the look of these on a dark grey car (I'd respray the centre caps):

Thanks for the shopping tips!

just be careful of the offsets. and that they are indeed genuine wheels.

Kahdmus 05-05-2004 12:31 PM

Johnny, I just bought these YESTERDAY:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEBWN%3AIT

Tires are right size, have emailed on the offsets. If anyone can advise as to what these offsets 'might' be, I'd appreciate it.

Are these wheels "Cup II's"? I get confused as I have always thought of Cup's and Cup II's as being the two design types for 964 and 993 respectively, but looking in Adrian s book I see cup design '92 and cup design '93...are these wheels by any chance CD'93's ( I am thinking "NOT")?

Regardless of offsets, and the possible requirement to fit stops or spacers, they will definately look good on my car!! I ordered some new silver logo center center caps to finish them off!

Johnny,

Is your car Slate Grey? I have often wondered about putting black wheels onto my car but have never been convinced of how it would turn out. If you go for that option please post some pics.

I have the cup 2 wheels from a 993 on my 964 and they look great!
I am thinking of refinishing one of my sets with grey paint on the spokes and a polished silver on the lips.

I'd go with the 993 Cup wheels. I'm not a huge fan of dark wheels on dark cars, although black wheels look great on yellow cars.

I agree - black and yellow is a great combination! :)

Also, I do think the shade of the car makes a huge difference to the wheels that are best suited. For example on a dark car I think simple cups are hard to beat, on a very light car (such as white or baltic blue or something) more complex designs like BBM LS look just amazing...funny how this works!

Johnny, I'd go with the cups on your car!

Howard, couldn't get your page to load - slow work computer..

I too am confused with the cup 1, 2 etc thing.. some cup 1's have 'proud' spokes, others seem flush (like the 993 wheels - or is that just the picture) - what does it all mean!! Added to that is the imprecise description of the e-bayers, selling on behalf of a mate's brother etc..

Mercedes Ben - any chance of a picture of your 964 on the 993 wheels?

Edit: I'm thinking most about the 'twists' at £500 - same as Robmug's car, which I think looks great when it's not jumping fences...are these originally 993 fitment?
Straight swap too? Offset 55 frt, 50 rr..

warmfuzzies 05-05-2004 02:20 PM

If they are genuine, the offset will be next to the valve.

The black ones are cup 1's the others are cup2's and the twists, well cup3 or turbo twists, not sure.

kevin.

In case the link was wrong (or post log-in), here it is:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2476198727

I can see offset next to valve but too small to make out!

Johnny G Pipe 05-05-2004 07:36 PM

Got it. Same as my middle option. Is rear offset of 70 OK?
And..snowpoet? Do tell...

Kahdmus 05-05-2004 07:49 PM

Johnny, if the offset is 70 I guess spacer of 15-20mm is required to bring it in to 50-55mm? Was 70 the offset on the similiar set you were bidding on?

PS. Wont tell! :D

ronnie930 05-05-2004 07:56 PM

Johnny,

Go for the twists...my old 930 had 17" twists and looked good. Did you get my pm about the scottish run?

B.T.W are you coming to crail on Saturday?

Ronnie

I have a full set of BBS 3 piece wheels for sale that are for the 964. email me at phil@angerinc.com if you have interest. These have Bridgestone SO2's with about 80% (front) and 45% (rear).

rutz964C4 05-06-2004 03:08 AM

I bought the second type CUP II from germany OEM they were from a 993 so you have to be carefull with the offsets, I had to put spacers, but the car looks great.

The first ones look from a Boxster I´ve seen them in a 964 and also look very good.

ALEX
