RS swaybar
My car has the rear RS adjustable swaybar positioned at very end of the bar. Correct me if I am wrong, would repositioning the bolts one notch higher to the middle hole stiffen the swaybar, thereby increase oversteer tendency?
What are your opinions regarding installing a 964 RS front adjustable swaybar to my C4, would that increase understeer compared to the stock C4 bar which my car currently has.

To answer your 1st question...yes...adjusting the holds up farther stiffens the bars effect on that end of the vehicle.
The 2nd question is subjective, and being that you have an RS rear bar, I would say YES to the RS front and balance the car as necessary, although I can tell you that you will want that front bar in it's LAST hole (loosest setting).
It's hard telling whether you will encounter more oversteer due to the length of the bars ends, etc. but I would think you might be in the market for a better than stock shock/spring setup...if you don't already have one.

thanks for your reply. I just have another question: Will setting the front bar at its loosest setting be stiffer than what the stock bar currently provides?
What happens if I set both bars one notch higher: 2nd to last hole in the front bar and the middle of the three holes in the rear bar?

Good question, as I wondered the same thing before ordering mine.
The bar's ends were the same length as the M030 22mm swaybar I had taken off the car, so the last holes in the new 25mm bar were at the same location as the ONE SET of holes on the M030 bar (non adjustable).
I have my 25mm in it's loosest setting and my rear 22mm bar one up from it's loosest setting.
You see, you don't want to make your swaybars function like your springs...or you will have all kinds of whacky handling, etc. and eventually might BREAK one.
Gee, wonder how I know?
Do you have upgraded springs/shocks??

I have the 25/22 RS bars from The Racers Group (TRG) on my car. Keep in mind, there's also an 18mm rear bar available fromm TRG and others so before you purchase a new front, you'll want to confirm the specs of your current part.
I run the bars at the middle setting on both and love the way my car handles. Keep in mind, I also have 8" front wheels which, along with R compounds, RS coilovers and -3 degrees of camber front and rear, help keep the nose well-planted during high speed turns.
The C4 tendancy to oversteer can be tamed but you may want to attack the issue in increments. First, tighten the rear bar and see how that goes. You may want to follow with a wider front tire (225) and also wider wheels. If you feel you've gone too far, then add the big front bar.
My handling opinions are based on track performance. While low-speed turns with big throttle still result in noticeable push, the fast stuff at the track feels just right. Conversely, if you have a car which feels loose around town, it's a good bet that it may be a bit much on a race course.

thanks Joey. I have the 18mm adjustable rear bar set at its loosest setting on my C4. Maybe I'll move the rear bolts on notch higher to feel the difference before installing the front RS bar.

I'm surprised at the RS bar being at the loosest setting. Porsche recommends street cars be in the middle. For the track, and to reduce understeer, I have my RS bar in the rear on firm (closest to the bar, farthest from the end). It still understeers, but not much (this is my 993, the 964 has TRG bars).

While we're on the topic, I like to upgrade my bars to the RS versions. Would welcome any feedback on the ideal setup. I'm thinking 24mm in front and 18mm in back. Car currently has RS coilover struts in front and Bilstein HD coilovers in back. My car rides perfectly right now for city driving with an acceptable harshness. My goal is to achieve near flat cornering, the car currently pitchs just a little.
Would also appreciate recommeded source and cost for the front and rear bars.

Me wrong... checked my car's rear swaybar and it was set in the middle holes. Aiming to purchase and install front RS bar next week.
Tom, what is the setting of the front RS bar on your 993?

You can purchase nice bars from The Racers Group for $299 each. I have their 25/22 front and rear bars on my car. I believe Gert with Carnewal sells the Factory RS parts for 575 euros, he's in Beligium.
You may want to call and inquire regarding kit components. Drop links are at least $100/pair so these prices may not include all necessary parts which may cost more.

thanks Joey for your info. Do you have more details or descriptions about what drop links are used for in relation to rear swaybars?
I called my local Porsche dealership and if I am not mistaken, they're selling front RS bar for about USD370 before labor. Does that price sound reasonable?

Sorry, I don't have the rear numbers BUT the piece you need to be careful with is the front sway bar links. The RS links are shorter and may not work with the C4. With my TRG bars, the stock 964 drop links will work:
964.343.069.01 and 964.343.070.01
Many of the motorsport/RS parts were designed for RWD cars so the fit up front can be tricky. The rear parts for C2/C4 parts are the same.
As for what will work with the parts you buy, I'd ask the vendor, your mechanic or perhaps Viperbob from the 993 forum. Your Gemballa suspension might throw another variable into the equation so consult an expert.
BTW, the $370 price sounds fine.

My local Porsche mechanic said the front 964RS swaybar will not fit a C4. Onto Plan B.
Joey, you mentioned that you car has the front swaybar from TRG, how much did it cost? And this swaybar will work with the factory RS droplink, is that correct? Any particular person whom I should contact at TRG for more info?
