FWIW I spent a good while debating which route to take into Porsche ownership and , having driven both I must say they are worlds apart.

The boxster was very accomplished but not that exciting, the 964 took my breath away and still gives me butterflies in my stomach when exiting a corner at the right speed in the right gear!!!

In addition there's the depreciation factor, buy a good 964 and you know the deal - look after it and it won't lose much at all. With the Boxster you're probably aware it's reaching the end of its design life and will be replaced by an all new car soon. With boxsters I can only speculate that with production numbers so high there will be big depreciation. There were only 3500 or so 964s in RHD delivered between '89-'94 so scarcity alone helps the reisduals.

Either way both great cars and good luck with the decision,

Adrian

Don't most people trade UP to a 911 from a Boxster?

Again, I believe there will be a floor which the Boxster will not go below. At 14.5K, it sounds a) a great deal and b) I can't see the values dropping that much lower due to the fact that the car has intrinsic value due to quality and performance.

For me, cars have never been about money though. I guess if Paul needs to keep the costs under control then the Boxster is the safer bet (probably).

Finbarr Raby - can you petition for a cartoon strip every month in 911&PW in which you are the star?

Paul - I have seen some really gorgeous Boxsters and my wife really loves 'em....but dont you have kids (sure I read a post somewhere implying this) the biggest strike against a Boxster for me (aside from not being a 911) is the lack of space!!

Ultimately...do what your heart tells you...or you'll never be happy! You may even want to wait to find a cleaner 964/993....why be limited to these two current options?

Best of luck,

Fair point Adrian, but to be fair the 944 held its value very well indeed until quite recently.

"The handbags are flying now." I just sprayed my monitor with a mouthful of wine. Keep it up, this is too funny.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is it's down to personal choice.

The 964 has already proven itself as so many of us love driving them and for Paul it seems being without one is pretty difficult.

My only concern is that buying a boxster, great car though it is, their owners tend to kick off a conversation about the car along the lines of, "the reason I didn't buy a 911 is.........................."

You pays yer money you makes yer choice

Adrian
