I ended up using a hair dryer on my gasket yesterday, It did seem to help, although it was a true comedy of errors getting it on the car - I finally got it stretched and got the badge onto the bonnet, "Eureka!!" I think, so I reach out and pick up a speed nut, still firmly holding the badge so the gasket deosnt come loose, I turn around for my socket wrench and realize its slightly out of reach! I stretch myself backwards with a foot in the trunk to keep the hood up so I can push down on the badge and retain enough pressure to keep it in pace whilst I retrieve the wrench. Unfortunately after successfully playing 'twister' to get the wrench, I fumble the speed nut and it rolls under the car!!! I am able to secure the badge with the other nut to ensure the gasket wont pop out before crawling on the floor.......glad noone was home to witness this slapstick!!!

Johnny - you really want to use the new gasket. Mmy old gasket was hardened and brittle and disgusting, in fact the new rubber alone seems to make a big difference to the appearance!

Howard, take reassurance from the fact that your antics are being played out by others all around the world at this very moment...

JB - not sure how reassuring this is! I mean I dont know if being one of a group of inept twister playing idiots is better than being the only one?

Johnny - how about this in the garden shed?

You do Gulf, I'll do Martini...

You probably need a long-tail, to carry extra grass cuttings!

I read this just today, its probably old hat to most, but I didn't know the complete origin of the badge and found it quite interesting:

So, after successfully adding a new badge last week, I went and got a SILVER one. Now, even after I was successful in removing the original AND coming back here and preaching about how EASY it was...the new speed nuts are simply laughing at me in the face...they will not BUDGE!!!!!

Any more ideas around removing these B$#%%$d's?

Also, anyone think the silver badges are a bit rice? I've got some slight misgivings about changing it, not because I dont think it'll look gtreat, but that its too far from what came out of the factory!

Cheers,

Well, never mind...its done!! The lessons learned from performing this operation twice this past week are:

1. pull up on the badge using the edge of your fingers (even just light pressure will make the nuts come off.
2. using a hairdryeron the gasket makes an immense amount of difference.
3. Silver badges are the BEST!!!! LOL!

JB, I literally just went to take a picture (funnily enough I had you in mind!!) However, in the sunlight, all 5 pictures look GOLD...I mean REALLY GOLD!!

Until I can get a good representative snapshot, you'll have to take my word for it.........SILVER IS BEST!!!!

EDIT: I just went to try again in a different light and it STILL looks gold!!
