Default What shocks w/ h&r sports?

I was wondering what shocks would be the best for this application? I thought bilsteins but I keep on reading that you need the sports when used with a lower spring and I can not find anything but the HD's. Thanks for the advice.

Most people have great results using the Bilstein HD's with lowering springs - even for track use. There are higher performance options, but things start getting VERY expensive after HD's.

Good luck,

Erick

IMHO, it makes NO sense to use anything "higher" than a Bilstein HD or Koni adjustables with the H&R "sport" springs.

Once you get into a stiffer setup with some serious springs, etc. then one might consider shocks more accustomed to a racing setup.

"Middle Ground" is a PSS-9 setup, nice and variable for all kinds of driving, but far from a race setup.

Quite a few of us use the Bilstein HD/H&R RSA(965) springs combination. A bit stiff for regular street driving because of the higher working spring rates of the RSA(965) springs (250-275 Fronts, 270-295 Rears). But for the track it's pretty darn good considering the price.

I have Koni adjustables with the H&Rs and I wouldn't recommend anything harder if you plan to use the car daily.

If I set the shocks to full hard I can have great fun at a slalom but at 200km/hour plus on the autobahn the car is dangerously sensitive.

When I crank them back to "soft" the car is comfortable at 240+.

I don't believe there is a Sport version for the 964--just the HD's. Bilstein makes other models, 964 RS, 964 RSR, Cup, to name a few, but this Sport vs. HD question has puzzled a lot of people. I think Jeff Curtis called and found out that HD's are the only "street" option they offer.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks for all the reponses. I currently do not track my car, so I'm not looking for a race setup. I will be attending some driver ed's so I can become more confortable driving my porsche (first one). I was more looking for an answer to which shocks because I could not find any other bilsteins except for the hd's and every website that sold them stated that they are not recomended for use with lowering springs. Thanks again, Steve

I just purchased and installed the Bilstein HD shocks and H&R lowering springs. I was told that now the HD is the Sport shock. Slightly more firm than stock replacements. But not overly so.

I bought mine from Performance Products during their 20% off sale. At that time, the final cost for the H&R springs and HDs were the lowest.

On prices, you may want to request a quote from http://www.shox.com They often have the lowest everday price.

You may look at www.wholesalehyperformance.com/ prices are very nice especially if you don't live in CA(Tax). Worthy to note shox.com has the best package price on H&R springs and koni's for $979

poorscheC2 (Steve) - I dunno why Bilstein or any other dealer for Bilstein products would advise NOT to use lowering springs with the shocks, after all, they come with instructions on how to trim your bump stop if using lowering springs.

My first "track" setup on my C2 was the Bilstein HD with H&R sport/lowering springs for a 965, otherwise known as the RSA "sport" springs in the Performance Products catalog...they worked GREAT but I kinda outgrew them as I wanted more and more.

We all know how that goes!
