Oil temp/pressure guage
Has anyone else got an oil remp/pressure guage with what seems like a peeling affect in front of the engine check lights?
As I sit at the helm it's the only thing I can see which shows the car's age.
Is there any form of repair that can be done or is it time for a new guage?
If so can anyone recommend a good supplier for a replacement.
Thanks
Adrian

For a quick fix you can just pull the clear plastic film off the back of the glass and the gauge will look brand new. Porsche obviously put the film on there for a reason (fogging?) and gauge refurbishment is pretty inexpensive so you may want to just have it fixed properly. Two companies in the USA are North Hollywood Speedometer and Palo Alto Speedometer. For companies outside of the USA search online for "VDO gauge repair"

I think I have the same thing, you really notice it at night with the lights on, the colors of the warning lights bleed through on their outlines? If so, yeah, it bugs me also........

Thanks for the reply.
The misting on your guage seems to be on the clear plastic lens. On mine it seems to be like a clear film on the black face of the guage itself which is peeling where all the engine check lights are.
I'll try and post a photo but she's going into the sprayshop today for a wwk or so to have the scrape on her rear quarter repaired (I bought her like it)

That's interesting! Not for you two, I'm sure. I looks like you should be able to just pull off the peeling part. That's what I'd try, then if that failed, go have it refurbished somewhere.

I had that same problem when I bought the car. Ordered 1 used gauge on the junk yard. Excellence conditon, same production year. 50 US$ for the thing. I think they used different materials. This one I have now is much much better quality.

I finally got around to fixing my two peeling gauges. The safety plastic behind the glass delaminated and the dark film over the warning lights had cracked. I followed garrett's advice and used adhesive remover and a razor blade to pull the clear anti-shatter plastic from the glass face and for the cracked film I used q-tips and rubbing alcohol. If I did things again I might take an x-acto knife and a metal straight edge to sharpen up the area where I removed the black warning light film. When I put the glass back on the gauge I used heavy test fishing line as an o-ring. Anyway, the gauge looks brand new.
