Does anyone have any pics of 275s on their 911

Would love to see what a narrow body 965 looks like with extra tire on it.
If you have pics of the front or rear stance, please post them!

Thanks,

Greg

What size do you have? I have 265/35 on the rear and I don't think I could go any larger. It really fills out the wheel wheel and I have rolled wheel arches all around.

Jeff Curtis 02-05-2004 11:20 AM

Doug, you have 18" right?? I assume so being that 265s are common in 18".

ANOTHER assumption would be that Greg, you're talking about 17" 275s??

If so, I have some pics I can post later, once I get home. They fit, barely...are you talking street or track tires??

I tell you what to do, goto www.tirerack.com and pick which 275 tire you're interested in, then compare them to the Kumho ECSTA to see if they are about the same dimensions. If the 275 you're interested in has wider dimensions (believe me, all the tire manufacturer's specs differ) than the Kumho 275, let the games begin! :D

Translation: if the tire you want to use compares in dimensions to the Kumho ECSTA, you're in business, if they are wider in dimension, you will have to use spacers and alignment to get a larger 275 under there. :(

My goal is to get as much rubber underneath me as possible. When your car makes over 550ft/lbs torque, you need all the help you can get!!!! :D
Anyway, I would most likely go with 17s since I have them.

This would be for street, and weekend track events...

I have Kumho Ecstas now, with 245s.

Would love to see pics of both your setups guys!

Thanks,

G

Sorry, I didn't think about 17 inch. Are 17 inch 275s about the same width or are the wider? Not really sure about comparison of tires sizes within different diameters.

Mine are 18.

C4TT 02-05-2004 12:35 PM

Doug,
Post anyway, because I was considering new rims as well...
But my wheels are 17 inch in diameter... Not sure the actual inch width of 275s.. Tires do differ quite a bit from brand to brand...

You can go here to see a side view of my RS America with 275/40/17 Yokohama A032R's on the rear.

http://www.rsamerica.net/gallery/darrelle_of_wa.htm

The tires are on Fikse Mach V's. 8 and 9.5 x 17. They just barely fit with about -2.0 camber in the rear. I get just a bit of rubbing on the tub in the right rear. I can't imagine anything larger fitting under there. I'd give you a rear view shot, but the wheels aren't currently on the car. They're off having new Toyo RA-1's put on. I'm switching to 255/40's because the 275's where so tall that they were compounding the already tall gearing in the stock tranny. Someday I'll have Mr. Weiner fix that problem:)

Here's a pic of my car with Yoko A032R tires (235/275). I'll try and get a better one this weekend if the weather permits. I also can't imagine anything bigger being used as there have been rubbing issues both front and back with these tires. Front fenders are rolled.

Hey you guys using Yoko A032Rs, how noisy are they in the 275 size?
I had them a few years ago on my BMW, and they made a very loud whining noise.. Like a firetruck was following me.. :D

Seems like the safest bet is going with 265s huh...

Thanks guys, and if anyone has rear ass shots with the big tires.. Please post them!

Here is an old photo of mine. The new Pilot Sports are actually a bit larger than these.

Out of curiosity, what tire is wider, a 17 inch 275/40 or an 18 inch 265/35.

Tom W 02-05-2004 07:37 PM

The A032R's are the noisiest things I've ever heard on the street. I don't notice it on the track, but it's nasty on the street. I prefer the MPSC on the track too, so once these wear out they will not be replaced with the same - I'll use MPSC and Hoosier's (I have two sets of rims).

Tirerack info says A032R sectional width in 275/40 is 10.7". MPSC in a 255/40 is 10.7" (see why you can't go by 275?) and Hoosier 255/45 is 10.4". The Hoosier 275/40 is 11.1" wide.

I don't see any of these tires in a 265. Only 255 or 275. It's also a question of balance for the front too. The A032R 235/40 17 is all you get (no 205 or 225 that I saw) and it's a smaller diameter 24.4" (the 275 is 25.8") which is pushing the limits for allowed diameter difference. MPSC and Hoosier pairs are closer in diameter (25.1 and 25.0 for example with MPSC 225/255 pair).

I second Tom on the A032 noise. I thought my rear bearings were failing when I first drove on the street with them. Its one of the major reasons I'm switching to Toyo's.

Yup, the Yokos are EXTREMELY noisey on the track. It's incredible how bad you can hear a 944T shod w/245 Yokos as it enters the straightaway and there's this incredible screaming/howling sound emminating from the tires. I thought my friend's turbo was going to grenade!

...until we figured out that's what was making the noise, the Yokos.

Sorry, didn't have a chance to post some pics last night, was out of it from minor surgery I had late afternoon.

I still do not like Doctors. ;)
