Replacing primary muffler with bypass...muffler straps?

Do I reuse the 2 original muffler straps? Since muffler diameter is much larger than the bypass pipe, they seem way to long...
'89 C4...
Thanks.

Thanks.

Mine have specific straps for the bypass. The originals are far too big. As there are many brands of bypass you may need to find the exact match.

Bypass pipe should come with its own specific straps.

Thanks.

I re-used my originals by drilling / bolting it together at a smaller diameter.

Actually a great idea. The ones sold by FVD are 330mm, or 13". Might try that, thanks.

I took original Porsche muffler straps, cut them and welded them shorter to fit.

I bought a stock car except for a primary muffler bypass. I knew it would be a little louder than stock, but I found it much too loud. I lived with it for a few years but just put a primary muffler back on. I love it. I think stock sounds so much better. Of course that’s totally subjective.

I like keeping the option open to go back to stock as I has factory cat bypass for power and some extra noise.

One thing to think about before you cut up OE parts is the cost to replace them. OE muffler straps are $$$

Yea, I have to agree. Original parts can be too hard and $$ to come by. I used two heavy duty SS T-bolt clamps, worked great. I also like the ability to go back to stock....

Definitely a very important consideration. I think if I had to re-install a primary that the drill solution would be reversible (barring small holes in the straps). But I don’t foresee doing it. The stock exhaust was a little muted for my younger blood. I wanna hear my flat 6 not my cooling fan...

I just used large hose clamps on mine and its worked great for 4 years now.
