Default Thin spoke 17" Cup I wheels???

I purchased a couple of items including a set of 8 & 9 Cup I's and these came along with the package. They seem to be a decent wheel. Haven't had a chance to weigh them yet but seem comparable to the Cup I's. I believe the set is 8 & 9 X 17 with ET52 offsets. Made in Japan and are approved with what appears to be a 94 production date.

Anyone see a set of these before or have any info about them. I like the narrow spoke and cup design in a 17".

But who makes them? They are narrow spoke like the 16" versions but these are 17" narrow spoke. I have never seen a narrow spoke 17" version before.

Being that they're made in Japan, I am sure the quality is there. They look good.

They look to be the same as the 18" that was recently posted. Mystery wheels: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...p-replica.html

I know there not factory cup wheels and these Mystery wheels do seem to be the same manufacturer as my 17's. I removed the tires today and they look the same all around. Very similar to the cup wheels I will try to weigh them and post tomorrow along with the cups I picked up.

I have a set of these wheels, using them for track wheels. I swap them between my 964 and my 996, since I'm too cheap to buy two sets of track tires. I lost my notes on when I weighed them, but I think they are on the heavy side. I like the look, as they "match" the 16" Cups that came original on my 92 C4. And I like having the 8" front rim for 225 tires. I do not have any rubbing issues front or rear with these. One small note - they require the use of a metal stem due to the size and location of the valve stem hole. This took a bit of digging to get the right valve stems that would fit.

Thanks,

I have the metal stems and have access so no issue for me. The prior owner was running 245/275 Hossiers on these on his RSA apparently no rubbing.

I would consider going to a larger set of tires, also, on the next round. I am running Hankook RS4's, so not sure if I have that option.
One additional issue to watch out for with these wheels - they are apparently a bit thicker at the lug mating surface. Meaning, the studs, or lug bolts on my 996, are just barely long enough. On the 964 I use open end steel lug nuts, and the nuts barely cover the studs. On the 996, I use +5mm lug bolts, as the stock lug bolts had insufficient number of threads engaged.
I will be anxious to see your results on weights.

Darrell,

I appreciate the insight. I'm trying to figure out what to do with some of this stuff. I had no interest but these were part of the package. I already have too many wheels for my cars and these don't fit my WB track car I run 9.5 and 11's on. But the look intrigues me. I might have to remount a tire and see how it looks while checking the stud length.

Interestingly the fronts weigh 2 pounds more than the 8" CupI's at 24 pounds vs 22 but appear to be closer to an 8.5" than an 8. The rear 9"s actually weigh the same 26 pounds as the Cup I's.

I am contemplating selling these. As much as I like them I have too many wheels and not enough space. I have 3 sets of Cup I's so maybe I should sell one of them instead or one set of each but the cost to buy more tires for such limited use isn't adding up.

"I have too many wheels" Bah.
I have been told by more than one person: "There's medication for this"
I have a lot of wheels for all of my vehicles. "A lot" is not the same as "Too many".
