What an awesome feeling

i remember after my first time on track I began judging every car by its track worthiness

which sedan is the best track car?
which is the best track pick up?

How many cars can take the carousel without oil starvation?

Reminds me of the first track event my wife participated in and came back with a grin from ear to ear saying "why didn't you get me to do that earlier" I only hounded her for 13 years. Now she is as hooked as I.

Glad you got to experience that, it's an important side of what these cars are capable of.

I remember doing my first session at VIR, a very fast track. Hammering the car to red line in every gear, instructor yelling at me to break harder and give gas at impossible times through the turns... roll into the pits at the end of the 20 minute session and look in disbelief at the oil temp sitting at 9 o' clock like nothing happened... the brakes/tires were a different story. I drove home slowly and so content from experiencing a car that is so much better than me and could take a lifetime to master.

Being able to drive on a track at least occasionally is a great experience. It hones your skills and like 911jetta says, you do drive home slowly but I think you appreciate your car more.

I don't know, I found driving home after being on track is a horrifying experience. I feel safer on track at 140mph around other cars than I do on the roads at 65mph which feels like your crawling. It really shows you how awful the average driver is. I can't do it any longer so I had to purchase a trailer. I still hate the drive home but keeps me in check.

Jetta you need more track time. VIR is one of my favorite tracks and when I was driving my C2 I was at the limits of the R compound tires with full upgrades. The limiting factor today with the 964 is HP. The new cars are darn fast and the average new driver in a modern car isn't learning half as much as you are at twice the speed. When you master a 964 it is an amazing feeling. Like a dance as time slows and things just feel right. If you screw up it lets you know unlike the modern day cars nannies kicking in and saving the drivers **** without them having a clue.

It is addictive and has become quite expensive. When I am finally done with my track car if I add up all the bills and time I might be afraid to take it back out. LOL

Never ever look at or tally track/race car bills. I plan to sell my NASA GTS BMW soon and replace it with a 997 Cup. I couldn't stomach it if I knew how much I was spending.

After last weekend, a friend of mine told me "if you could just take a drug to make you forget last Sunday at the track, you'd save so much money."

Track time is so fun. I've slowed it down (mainly work schedule/obligations at the moment) this past year. I was doing 30+ days a year. Now once ever couple months.
There really is nothing more fun in a porsche than enjoying it at its limits in a safe place (racetrack).

Nice, currently rebuilding an 00 996 Cup engine upgrading to 3.8L and hydraulic lifters. Gets pricey quickly. The similarities are amazing to the M96 engines but those Ti internals and 4 valve heads are nice. Too bad it has water jackets. LOL

I hope to offset the cost of all that titanium jewelry with my own labor. I've studied up on it and it doesn't look too bad. I have rebuilt BMW motors. Obviously I would need to get the required specialty tools required to do the job. Case and cylinders with inserts actually look easier than dealing with sending the block to the machine shop. Before I pull the trigger, it would be great to talk offline.
