964 C4 fuel leak

Hi All

hoping someone can give me some leads, I have a 1990 964 C4 in Australia however work overseas and go home 2 to 3 times a year, my son starts the car but doesn’t drive it. I was back over Xmas for short period and didn’t drive it but on last last before departing put a new cover on it and started it. After a minute I could smell fuel also noticed gauge was low anyway stepped out off car noticed fuel leaking from bottom around middle of car behind front wheels?
I turned it off washed down as was around 38 deg C but didn’t get a chance to lift it see where leak was coming from, any ideas what may be the cause?
Appreciate and clues if anyone experienced this when I’m back next will put it on ramps and try to identify where it’s leaking.

There is a cover under there you’ll have to remove

I have seen it leak from the fitting going to the fuel pump and the fuel tank, what I have done before is cut the crimp part off with a drimell and use a clamp instead fairly easy to do.

Good luck

I concur that the leak is probably from a fuel pump fitting, either a hose or also check the high pressure fittings too. Easy to do once the car is lifted.

Not sure why the car needs to be started if you're not planning to drive it. It serves no benefit and in the air cooled cars can lead to premature wear. I'd just plug in a batter charger and leave it alone. IMHO...

Thanks guys,

i do usually drive if however as I’m away for long periods I do keep the battery on trickle charger but do get my son to occasionally start it to kick over sitting not turned over for 4 to 6 months I wouldn’t think would bd good?

Check the banjo fitting on the fuel pump. May just have to be tightened. If you have to replace anything, either drain the tank, or clamp off the hose. Be careful with sparks, hot drop light etc... around gas.

Fuel Leak When Tank filled...When Gas Station Pump Shuts Off

Greetings 964 Community,
Whenever I fill up my 1989 964...until the Gas Station Pump stops...I have an almost immediate fuel leak.
It seems to drip from in the middle of the car just aft of the front differential.
I also get fumes inside the car almost immediately after.
This never happens if I fill it 9/10 tenths full.
Would this be a Fuel Pump issue/Expansion Tank issue?
Does anyone have any pictures, directions or suggestions.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If it is related to the level you fill up the tank as you describe, the leak should be identifiable inside the frunk around the tank...

I would recommend not to drive the car until the issue is fixed!

See attached the parts catalogue diagram (201-00) of the fuel tank and lines.
