Default More 3rd Brake light questions

I have a 1991 964 and there doesn't seem to be any wiring in place for the 3rd brake light, despite the printed area on the glass for the unit.

There is a hole in the interior gasket...I can see a brown wire and a black with yellow wire, both appear to be for the rear electric window defrost. I also can find no wires in the headliner.

Looks like I can run the wire around the glass side of the gasket to the passenger side...but not sure how it get to the other side of the gasket. Any tutorials around?

I've tried to search, but the results seem to point me to the external, spoiler type light.

Thanks in advance!

The black/yellow and brown wires are for the third brake light. The rear defrost uses a red/black, red/white, and brown wires.

best thing i ever did was get rid of that high-glass 3rd brake light and replace it with a 993 brake light and new back glass.

That answered my question if a 993 third brake light will fit a 964.

i can't remember the full parts list. I live near Sunset Porsche and had them do the work. Double bonus was fixing a minor leak in the glass seal that developed over the last 24 years and nipping some minor rust in the bud.

I sort of regret not doing this mod. I don't really 'like' the look, I prefer the look of the 964 high mounted lamp, but, inside the car, I hate it, its smack in the middle of your rear view. So 993 is cleaner, but... ah well.

+1. I ditched the 3rd brake light and it drastically improved my rear vision (i'm a tall guy). Would highly recommend.

I didn't bother to replace with a 993 unit, but did put in a bergvill led brake light kit to help with visibility.

Fitted an led strip to my 993 window spoiler, ran the wires under the rubber seal into the car.
The loom was under the rear shelf, presumably there all there from manafacter?

Led strip was a few pounds of eBay, like a strip of paper with bumps on.

LED is best. Brighter, quicker, cooler light, with less draw. Bergvill FX makes a kit for the 993 third brake light. LED Kit for 993 rd Brake light

Cost me a few pounds.

LED lights run full length of 993 high level spoiler.
About 3ft, no 1 can miss it!

I'll take a pic

Default Go with 4 Lights

If your centerpiece has fog lights you can use those as additional brake lights
