Default RS belt covers - mounting?

Im looking to retrofit some RS belt covers. I had installed my RS carpet without these (due to NLA 964 and excessive $ for genuine 993 parts).

The factory correct solution for mounting these covers are welded studs (but I’m not sure which size). Given that my carpet is already in place, would a rivnut or rivstud be the next best solution and what screw size? Is there anything behind this area I should watch out for if drilling?

Thanks

The plastic nuts that go over them are supposed to be part #999.049.001.40 and size T5. But I have two different style of nuts attaching mine, with the plastic nut inside the cubby accepting a flat head screw driver...

Many thanks! Is T5 and M5 thread?

I think I may cap discharge weld the the studs. My understanding is the heat is minimal and localized to the base of the stud, but I'll trim the carpet a fair bit wider and mask it off.

If you decide to weld you might consider using this stuff it does work miracles.

Have you looked at any of the adhesive bonded studs that are in use now like Pem Varimount, Spida, etc?

^^^^ The Spida looks interesting, better than some of the kits i have seen and no doubt pricey. The kits I have seen aren't cheap for the lesser quality but amazing where things are heading.

No doubt pretty soon we will get around in self driving, robotically built, glued together composite & alloy, electric vehicles.

If you don’t fancy welding, you could bond these on with something like Sikaflex :

https://www.uksealants.co.uk/sikafle...ant-300ml.html

or if the baseplate is big enough, pop-rivet them instead.

I'm leaning towards simply drilling for rivnuts (or a metric rivstud if i can find one). I think the drivers side is clear to drill the holes. Does anyone know if the oil tank is not too close on the passenger side? 10-15mm of clearance is probably required and care to not pass the drill bit through.

Default Drilling into the chassis

If I am not mistaken, aren't you going to be drilling into the lower portion of your car? That is where the warm (hot air duct is inserted into the ducting/chassis part of the car.) There is a tube, much like a dryer vent behind that part of the wall. Just my $.02

Thought I'd update this belt cover "retrofit" project - I had the Capacitor discharge studs welded in with existing carpet remaining in place. Little touch up paint where I dremeled a hole in the carpet to the chassis.

Left the vents out for now as I'd probably have to cut my carpet. The edging should probably run behind the vent but I installed the carpet a bit too low.
