Tell me about the 993 steering rack

Three Wheelin'
Having swapped in a 993 rack not long ago, I can give you my take. First, the quicker ratio is barely noticeable. Second, the power assist is much stronger (less steering effort). I imagine that the increased caster of the 993 was able to partly make up for increased assist. Though more caster will dull the steering, it also adds more weight, straight line stability, and increases camber as the wheel is turned. The latter effect gives more bite to the front tires in a turn. The rack does bolt in with no problems, c2 or c4. Hope that helps!

Thank you very much gentleman!
Thomas for the tips. Bill for the photos. Spyrex for the clarification and insight. Nick for the review.
Mine will go in with a Cup electric power steering pump so Im not sure what net effect that will have on the level of assist. The rest sounds all fairly positive. Along with new bushings, tie rods, etc, I doubt I'll experience any downside compared to what I've gotten used to over the first 10k miles of ownership with all of the above being totally shot.
I guess one question I could ask is; does anyone have a preferred brake line bending tool? That's one I haven't added to the collection yet.

For those that upgraded to the 993 booster and MC, is there anything else you needed to do or was it bolt in? I had a shop do this upgrade on my car, and apparently the 993 booster does not fit into the linkage housing correctly. It was crooked, and the booster was damaged before we figured that out. Is there a mount that also needs to be used?

Didn’t see this
you need
booster
master
mount bracket
12 to 10mm flare brack lines from master to body.
You may need to clearance the booster a bit depending on your sway bars.

No. Just re use the parts but buy a new washer, No 15. There's one issue though with part 16. The end/flange facing 15 is like 1-2 mm to narrow for the 993 Booster so you have to grind off some metal. I used a Dremel. If you find use parts inclduing the Bracket No 16 it's all just bolt on.

Good info- so the 964 bracket (16) can be used with a little grinding. I’ll get the booster etc new so that saves me having to shop around for the used bracket.
I’ll add #15 to the list.

16 didn’t fit for me, but I bought a 993 one rather than grinding metal. They’re $50-80 on eBay.
