speakers for rear deck in 964
Hi- have a 1993 964 C2...want to replace rear deck speakers without needing to modify the panel. Seems all the posts I find here are at least 10 years old and speakers noted within are NLA. Thank you.

I replaced the rear deck and front door speakers on my 89 carrera (same sizing as 964) and they fit behind the stock grills with these:
I run them off the factory hifi amp/stock Reno radio. Sounds fine. Not modern hifi but better than the 80s for sure. for the fronts I simply disabled the tweeter and bypassed the crossover in the door panel. Porsche makes a factory replacement too.
100% there are better options out there... but these fit and sound good enough with the factory equipment.

These are decent, in fact you cant beat them for the price and if they come with the grilles even better as the grilles look like factory..No affiliation

If you wanted to go for branded speaker, I have just installed JBL Club 5020s in the front:

And I am planning to stick to JBLs for the read with the Club 6420. I haven’t done the rear install yet so I cannot tell you if they fit straight in but I am hoping.

Recently my mechanic got a parts catalog for classic cars (looks like a coffee table book actually)... in there there us new audio gear that fits the air cooled 911s without any modification. It specifically said new sound technology for older Porsches... parts numbers may not be the same, but I trust that Porsche knows what fits.
The pricing was very, very reasonable too.
Perhaps contact a Porsche Classic center.

Here are the speakers for the rear, I guess they’re reasonable considering they have the Porsche name attached to them but looking at the specs I don’t really see why the speakers already noted above wouldn’t provide equal sound and fitment: http://www.classicshop.porsche.com/p...g91164520.html
I usually like to keep things original but I make an exception for car audio as long as the new components fit without modification. I would much rather go with a an aftermarket solution, specially on older cars that had poor speakers to begin with.

If you notice, the MB Quart I posted is the same design as the Porsche.
I'm swapping out an aftermarket set of Blaupunkt speakers that I put in that are terrible, I put them in for OEM factor but since I have the MB quart door speakers, I'm hoping these sound a little better.
They are heavy and nice quality and also $210 less than Porsche, which aren't made by Porsche, lol.

Take a look at the mounting depth of the MBQuart fkb146 at 76mm vs the JBL Club 6420 at 50mm.
This might be the problem you run into.

As I said though, I also have not tried to install the JBLs yet but would report back once attempted.

I think they may be including the grill on the website. Here's the depth from the manual. I measured and confirmed.
