Default Tire Recommendation for 17" Cup 1

What is your tire recommendation without breaking the bank to fit in 17" 7 & 9 Cup 1?

This subject comes up almost weekly within my club and as I always say.... get the round black rubber ones. You will be happy.

Agree on 225/45R17 and 255/40R17.

If you want to save a little money over the Michelins, the Continental Extreme Contact Sport (Summer) and Extreme Contact DWS (All-Season) are both very good tires as well.

Climate? Miles per year? Autocross? DE?

Earlydays has a good list going. I agree with Spartan about the Conti's, I'm running the Extreme for summer tires on the mini, and DWS for 964 all-seasons. Both do their jobs well. Also keep in mind that sticky tread is almost always louder than lesser performance options.

Does a 225 fit okay on a 7" rim? I thought the 7.5" was the recommended width for 225 and 7" for the 205. But 7.5 are replica cup 1s?

Yes, 225 fits fine on a 7 or a 7.5. I run 225s on all of my 7 inch fronts.
FYI, There actually are some OEM Cup 1s made in 7.5x17, they came on the 928 GTS.

What about the 8" vs. 9" rear Cups? Can you fit 255 section tyres on both?

If yes, would I be wrong if I presumed the wheel to go for at the rear would be a 8" over a 9" since it must be lighter?
