I assumed that someone had put them on incorrectly..

however if you take them off and run the wiper system to park and reinstall them in their proper position there should be no problem, they will stop where you wanted them

I think they will try and wipe your hood not your windshield

I did it and have no issues. If you remove both arms and them run system and shut it off so the studs are in park position , then reinstall arms why would they go any further then where they were put on?

If they were pointed to the left of the car and you leave them pointed left your correct. If they were pointed left and you then point them right the shaft still runs clock wise then counter clockwise and will push them down across the hood then back up to where they were when point right

TO clarify this was not a suggestion to change them to be pointed to the right , this is to lower the park position

OP in his first post stated " On my car, they sit below the glass and on top of the painted portion of the cowl; ugly."

and I was responding to that

he also asked if there was any defined placement, I have edited my initial response to avoid confusion and wipers dragging across hoods..

There you go being all sensible and looking for the simple fix I had missed the part about the wipers sitting on the cowl 😂😂
