"Clack" from Engine on Startup
Hey All,
I get a clack sound from the engine on starting up when the engine is already / still warm.
I know it is not the most descriptive question but thought it might still be worth asking the expert to see if it was something known.
It really does only do it when the engine is already warm and I am restarting. The engine does start, but right before it fires it seems to make this sound.
Thoughts?

Was it a "clack" or a "clank" noise? LOL. I described the noise as a "clank" when my starter went out in this thread. Not an expert, but maybe you can relate to my situation or the replies from others in the thread.

Thanks 911Jetta.
BTW both Slate Grey and Cobalt Blue are probably my favourite colours
Do you have more information on this statement from your old post?
"the part of the starter that engages with the flywheel would get stuck and wouldn't retract as it normally should (causing that horrible solenoid clanking noise)"
Do you think this getting stuck and it making the clanking noise always has to prevent the car from starting though? As I mentioned, the car does indeed start each and every time after making this noise.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the color compliment, but the only color that looks good right now is a running car!
I’ll let someone more experienced address the starter retracting part, and how that effects the clanking noise.
What I remember most from the situation besides the clanking noise, was the eventual long second of silence, then it started. I think the silence part is a big sign. Like you, my car also eventually started every time too, until it didn’t anymore.
