Right quarter was replaced as well as some mechanical parts in the immediate vicinity. I got a copy of the repair bill. It was fixed last year to the order of $18K. Like i say, I trust my mechanic, and the car drives great, but the biggest hurdle is to explain all of this to a random guy down the road when i decide to sell a few years down the road.

2/ you are getting the advantage (someone else ate the diminished value) and that will be passed onto the next owner
3/ this will likely go to an enthusiast down the road, most are more understanding than a regular guy
So why worry about what the value of this car may be in the future... for all we know demand dries up in a few years. Then you will be at lower risk financially than buying a higher value vehicle.
Everything has a price, you just need to assess if it is fair for the condition and for you.

My advice, if you’re buying it as an investment you shouldn’t buy it. If you’re looking for a good candidate to modify into a track car then this might be a good starting point. I would still want to know how bad the chassis was damaged, $18k in repairs is fairly significant.

No, not an investment. Daily driver. Based on what my mech told me, the car was fine after the body was repaired, but short time after the engine died. Owner blamed the body shop, and demanded a new engine. New engine was available from Porsche, but the price was significantly grater than the value of the car, so USAA decided to salvage the car.
I've been driving it for a couple of days now and it's terrific. Of course there is a plethora of smaller issues like window switch falling apart, dirty/missing carpets, rubber seals around trim getting loose, but it's all cosmetic. Mechanically it seems very solid.

It isn't an investment candidate but assuming no significant tub damage I would be interested if you pass.

If I may contribute with my thoughts
- it drives great you say. Does it drives and brakes straight ?
- have a look underneath, best on the bridge, would you see then anything anormal ? Important leaks, rusted parts, ... The body did get damage or not ? You might see some trace when it's on the bridge...
- brake pads and brake disk are recent ?
- when was the latest maintenance ?
On top of that, I would say keep your head cool as well. Emotions can come into play when we tests theses toys and it's normal but be aware of it. We all have been there ...
Based on what I see, it sounds like a decent all day rider but you'll have quite a few bucks to get right and perfect. Parts are costly, and time consuming. And even more costly if you put a professional onto it.
Even if you are about 10k under market value, you might consider trying to negotiate a little ? Maybe add a maintenance in the actual price ? New pads ? Things like that. just to be sure that you can drive the car without fear of missing oil or... .

What was date of accident on Carfax? This will help you piece together valuations at that point in time. If it was over 4 years ago, then this was was valued in the low to mid $20K and will not take a lot to total. Be best if you can somehow get a photo of the damage at the time.
GL. Crazy how the prices are today. Just cannot believe these valuations continue at this level so ask yourself if you will regret this purchase if car valuation drop $10K. In another words, is owning and driving this car worth $10K to you? If so, then get it and be prepared to DIY a little bit. You might enjoy the journey.
