Hogging parts I see! I'm guessing he'll want a serious premium for those 964 racks. I should have mine back from Zims any day.

I am experiencing the same problem over here in germany. No 1992 steering rack available - not even via Porsche Classic directly in Zuffenhausen.
That thing is on backorder since forever (5 months st least). ZF says they cannot reactivate production since parts from other parts-manufacturers needed for completion of the steering rack are missing/backordered.

Over here in Europe there is also the option of having your steering rack refurbished directly with ZF including a new warranty for another 2 years.

I recently ran into the same issue. Couldn’t find a stock rack at most places. Someone wanted 4k for a manual rack. Was going to go with a 993 rack but one place wanted 2k and didn’t even have it in stock. Was really surprised Zims only wanted 400 and went with them. Rack came quick, looked great, and steering feels great now.

I’m glad I figured it out. I had real trouble placing the car when I took it to the track soon after buying it. I would try to kiss curbs and instead would run up on top of them. After getting a proper track alignment and corner balance, the play in the steering became real obvious. I’m really looking forward to hitting the track this week to see how the 964 can really do.

Give a call to Carquip in Boulder, CO. My '92 C2 was redone with a new one (I believe), just before I bought the car this month.
