Sway Bar reinforcement
As I lay under my car removing the front subframe I noticed the the rear transmission covering was lower on the driver side. After investigating the issue I've found my driver's side rear sway bar bushing mount has been completely ripped from the chassis! I've heard some odd noises from the rear of my car but thought it to be my rear top mount rubber drying out. A few weeks ago I vividly remember driving at night and hearing a loud thud, as if debris or a large rock had hit the undercarriage. After slowing down and not feeling, or hearing anything, I concluded it must of been a rock. I have no idea how to go about fixing this, and reinforcing the two areas. I have access to a TIG welder, but fear my suspension geometry may be effected. My car 89 C4 came with H&R sway bars at purchase. The sizes are 24mm and 26mm F/R, and I also have the Rennline drop links with stiffer rubber installed in the stiffer setting of the sway bar.
Has anyone ever seen this before on our 964s? Any advice on moving forward with this would be greatly appreciated. Here I thought snapping a bolt in the steering rack was the worse of my problems! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...1137747e4e.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...8f27ed8e04.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...33aa7dac21.jpg |
