964 carrera 4 starter motor! which one?
#16
From what I have found today is:
the 1989 964 c4, 90-93 964 Tiptronic and the 993 tiptronic use a different starter motor. They use the one with it's own housing and these transmissions have different bell housing than the manual transmission from 90 and up.
The transmissiin I have has a bell housing that has a bushing for the starter motorshaft which I think is for 90? It's not open like the tiptronic. I will share pictures once I get them along with transmission serial number.
My question is do I need to force the starter motor into position to seed it in? Or is it a slip fit? Do I need to insert a bushing between the starter flange and the bell housing to close the 5mm gap? Please have a look at the pictures in the previous posts.
Since I received the car without starter motor, I don't know how to answer these questions.
Thank you

The casing I have has two casting numbers, 964 301 103 5R and 950 301 102 3R and the transmission serial number is G6400 3K2646, anyone knows what that means?
please advise.

Three Wheelin'
This got overly complicated. Trans case "3K" = G64 ("3") and 1989 ("K"). You need a 1989 style starter, flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, ring gear, and throw-out bearing. Those all work together, I don't know what happens if you try to mix & match any of those parts with the later versions.
