Default How worrisome is this?

I just found this crack in my fan...
Might have been there for years without being noticed...
What does the group wisdom think?
Immediate replacement or can it wait?

Oof... I don't have an opinion on urgency, but observation of the paint as it adheres to the crack might be a clue. IMHO the clean white primer showing in the top region of the crack means that the crack is fresh. Again just an opinion. I would fix it right away. Imagine what failure might cost. Ack!

I wouldn't even start the car with that fan.

Yes you may get lucky. No - you don't want to know what an exploding fan can do.

Well i had a previous 89 c4 and drove it with a cracked fan for a few thousand miles. Luckily nothing happened. But ive had friends that have had a crack and the fan broke while driving. The fan projectiled breaking other parts in the engine bay the ruined the decklid. Hopefully that doesnt happen to you.
You can “pay now, or pay more later.” Is what they say.

Minor cracks are one thing, but that doesn't look structurally sound anymore. Especially since it's cracked around that edge, on both sides.

Alright copy that!!
Thank you all... for confirming my thoughts.
Now the question is: does anybody have a reasonably priced fan for sale ?
New or gently used would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Rob,

Want my advice? Buy a new factory fan,.....period.

A used one is just like yours: something ready to crack and thats a giant waste of hard-earned money.

Do it once, do it right, and you'll never regret it.

time to get a new fan ASAP and you can get rid of the red paint on the fan and fan shroud as well and have a nice looking engine bay

Your advice is always appreciated (just like the rest of you guys).
So now on the hunt for a new fan at the best price!
Anybody wants to part with a new alternator fan?

I love those guys. Bought tons of parts from them over the years. Always! got great service and yes, they are usually on the lower end of the price spectrum.

No affiliation but a very happy customer.
