Mspc2 265’s unavailable- should I try 285?
i just put in an order after much debate finally settling on spc2’s instead of forking out the dough for dedicated track tires and a set of street tires. My tire guy called me and Michelin is out of stock here in Japan on the 265’s with no definitive dates for availability.
Ive searched 285 figment here and see that my My02 wheels with a 21mm spacer might fit up- however every car is different. I can try a used 265 on for size but my question is whether the 285 is a good choice in terms of handling balance. Was planning on 225 up front so same as the factory 996 18” fitments.
1990 c2 with pss10’s fwiw.
I might just say screw it and go for a set of a050’s 225/265

I would have thought a 285 a little too wide for a narrow body C2 unless you have significant engine upgrades that require wider rears to put the power down. It would tend to exacerbate the understeer and as you have stated the recommended combo is 225 Fr and 265 Rr.

i don't know if this is relevant but i just tried to fit a 10'' MY02 with a 285 tire on my narrow C2 and it hardly reaches the lugs, maybe i was doing something wrong but it just seemed there wasn't room in there for all that tire... i am wondering if i need to go with all 8" rims or, do they make a 9" 02?

I think you will be a no go. Ultimately it depends on the physical tire dimensions and car setup as you know.
I run e88 in 18”, 8.5 +48 offset up front and 10 +51 offset in rear
i use nitto nt01, 23540Z18 /27535Z18, can you get these in Japan?
it is a very tight fitment. These are great track tires. Great dry street tire. Scary in wet :-)
Another option could be Michelin Pilot Super Sports 4S 225/40 18" / 265/35 18"

I tried a used set 225/265 super sports with 21mm spacers rear and had just a slight rub at the outer fenders (unrolled.). Also just the slightest touch on the oil line. A little massaging and 275’s would fit. I also promptly spun it on a corner- doh! I’m used to the a052’s level of grip.
No nt01’s here unfortunately. The a052 only lasted half 4000km’s so im trying a050’s I’m 17” and holding off on the 18’s for now.

Oh i forgot to mention my fenders are massaged (the lips) and oil pipe flattened a bit. Also so,e bits up front clearanced.
I havent yet tried the supersport 4s which is supposed to be a step up from the super sport. I run the supers on my wife’s m235 and they are quite good. But not r comp level grip.
another tire that is a real favorite here is the re71R which i believe you can get in Japan. It has nt01 grip. Maybe better.
After i i burn out this last set of nt01 I’m giving the re71R a go.
Btw. I maybe get about 4-5 track days out of the nitto before they are toast.

They sell the A052, not the A050 here. I haven't tried them. Some guys try everything and it seems that the street tire to beat is that RE71R, NT01 is good but an older tire now, the MPSC2 is good, but wears fast and heat cycles (same for the equivalent pierelli that is even worse for heat cycling), for grip and longevity. After that people just go to Hoosiers. And then slicks.
