QuickJack for 964
 

Could someone please advise if the QuickJack BL-5000 SLX (new version with 70" frames) will fit a 964? I have researched this and not found conclusive proof and there is some confusion of exactly when the shorter 70" frames became available. Thus we have some 964 owners saying the 5000 won't work unless used in a perpendicular fashion instead of parallel as intended. But it was not specified what length frames they were using. I think the original design for the BL-5000 was about 2" longer than the new design. Also if the 70" frame fits, does it block access to the oil drain plug of the oil tank?

I have read that it will work on a 993 which according to my manual has the same wheelbase as a 964 so I am hopeful it will fit. However, according to the fitment measurements, I am 1/2" shy of what QuickJack says I need. My 964 has a "Tire Spread" of 69.5" (after subtracting 2" for clearance) but the BL-5000 SLX spec says it needs 70" or more. Sooooo close. Would love to hear from any 964 owner who has the 70" frames. Also, I have the stock 16" tires so if it did not fit, what size tires did you have?

I just bought a new one for my 964 with 17" wheels. It fits fine but with little margin of error. I am using the short blocks with hockey pugs on top of them and the easily clear the oil plug.

That's great to hear. I like the design. Easy to stow when not in use. I was just not sure if I should go with the 3500 or the 5000. The 3500 is a bit short and the blocks won't cover the lift points without being shifted off-center by about 3/4" according to my calculations. So I am pleased to hear that the 5000 works on your 964 with 17" wheels. I will have a bit more room with my 16" wheels. Thanks for your input.

With the 17" wheels you get about 1" clearance against the front tire. The front arm of the lift swings in an arc and you need to push the lift almost completely against the rear tire. Once I figured that out it was easy. Also need to bleed the two hydraulic cylinders - there is a good video from QiickJack on uTube - to make the lift move smoothly.

Worth noting that the tire diameter and therefore clearance should be identical whether you are running 16 or 17 (or 18) inch rims.

another happy 5000 slx camper. Not tons of clearance but it works perfectly. 17" wheels with rs height. For my uses it has been great- but isn't a full lift. Very solid- no worries at all.

Ooops - My bad. Showing off my ignorance on optional wheel/tire combos. Thanks for pointing that out. But is it not possible to over-size or under-size tires if desired? I realize it would throw off the speedometer but other than that, can it be done? Just curious. My only tire over-sizing experience comes from mounting larger tires on my ATV expressly for increasing ground clearance.

Ok, I am convinced and just ordered my QuickJack. Thanks Cjoenck and Cartwheel for your input. I knew it would be tight if it worked at all, so really glad for your confirmations.

Bumping this thread...am considering buying a QuickJack. Only use will be for my 964 (stock suspension). Is the BL-5000 SLX still the best one to get? Echoing the OP, reading the various posts online is a bit confusing, in terms of what will work with a 964.

I can confirm that the BL-5000 SLX works on the 964, but it is a tight fit. Make sure that the arms do not contact the tires during the lift. If contact seems likely, then stop, lower and re-position the lift.
If the arms contact the tire on one side only, then when the lift is lowered, that side may remain elevated while the other side descends. Ask me how I know this. Luckily no harm was done, other than the need for new underwear. Ideally this lift should be about 2" shorter but with careful positioning it works great and I am very happy with it.

Some people rotate both ramps by 90 degrees but I think this can cause issues. It would be great to hear from those that have done this on a regular basis.

Yes it works great. I turned it 180 degrees and put the pivot up arms against back tires. It is tight but once you have done it once it is easy. Quick to set up and portable. It even works with a lowered car. Make sure you bleed all the air out of the hydraulics before first use. Finally I am using hockey pugs on top of the smaller blocks so you hit the lift points better.

BTW.....Costco now carries the BL-5000SLX - it was actually $999 prior to Christmas.
