Default Not starter, not ignition switch, not battery - what could it be?

I am really puzzled. Occasionally it takes 2 or 3 turns of the key to getting the starter going. The other times there is nothing. I changed the ignition switch (a real pain), changed the starter motor and checked (cleaned) the battery connections. Any ideas what else it could be.

Every time I browse a thread like this I see everyone saying to check your earth connections.

Had a similar problem, installed a new DME Relay, and the problem was fixed.

For me it was the yellow lead from switch to starter, it was fractured and sometimes would connect, other times it just clicked or did nothing, replaced the wire and everything was good

Thank you. Are you referring to the "ignition" switch behind the ignition key?

yes, i think it was the one at terminal 33 on the switch (but am not sure of the number, just that its the yellow wire that goes from the electrical portion of ignition switch to starter)
