Singer Ordering Advice?
Is there a thread or sub-forum here for Singer owners? I just gave up my 991.2 GT3 allocation to get a Singer instead. If you can afford the ~2X higher cost, it’s a no-brainer.
Eager to hear from others who have gone through the custom ordering process.

Lol. Thanks but I’m set on the Singer.

Yes, you do; but given that it will be stripped and very little of the original car is going to make it to the final version, the donor car cost is very low.

Obviously will contact Singer shortly. Lead time is 1 year, not 3, from my reading. But I’ll wait 3 if need be. Not a big deal.

I know many here aren’t fans of the Singer primarily because it means another 964 will be lost. Personally I’m a fan and would love to see some posts as you select options, colors etc.

I see, I suppose... although it’s more like a reborn 964 vs a lost 964. I wouldn’t use a good donor car, only one that needs a ton of work anyway.

I'd love to hear about the restomodded horns...
Also i know of two C4 out here in ct that would be good singer candidates. I'd actually like to see what Singer would do with them. Ruf once made a manual conversion for the pdas like they had in the rally cars.
I'm always a bit critical of tearing up 964s to make singers...cuz so much of the car gets changed, they should maybe be using 993s...but they are awesome regardless. And spec'ing one out will be a ton of fun.
Advice- stay away from the boring old man colors it seems like they have been doing a lot of lately...have fun. Keep it fun. And drive it when you get it. It's a shame to make such cool cars and then find out they sit and don't get driven.

4 way horns built around the 1930s field coil RCA midrange drivers with conical horns by Bill Wood. Field coil Supravox upper bass in a folded horn enclosure. Tweeters are Fostex brass horns. They weigh about 300 lbs and are 7’ tall. There’s a separate active transmission line sub.

Also agree that the donor car should be in bad shape - what’s the point in tearing up a solid example?
The appeal of the restomodded horns is that big field coil powered drivers sound way better than magnetically driven drivers (which is how all modern speakers are powered). The RCA 1443/1428 midrange has a huge dynamic range, each driver weighs about 70 lbs, and can produce 140 dB peaks with less than 10 watts of power! And they are relatively inexpensive. Mine were owned by Jeff Jackson, actually.

Im sure youve seen the hill climb video of the white Singer in France or somewhere in Europe. Now that’s how to drive it! My wise roommate in college made a great quote “ if i can’t use it and have fun with it, I don’t want it” truer words have never been spoken.
